Re: David Dowson has left to join Spennymoor Town
A real shame. Would run himself into the ground for the team but if he's not getting first team opportunities it's understandable.
Just a shame it had to be Spennymoor.
I presume someone else is coming in. With the amount of games we have still to play, it'd be a huge risk just having Armstrong, Gaskell and Cartman as fully fit forwards (Purewal will need time to rebuild fitness).

How many ex Darlo they got in the ranks now? Must be 9/10 surely.

We must have someone else lined up. No way would MG let Dowson move on at this key stage of the season otherwise.
Its a risk as you know exactly what you'll get from Dowson.

Re: David Dowson has left to join Spennymoor Town
Good luck Dowse. You've been fantastic for us. You'll be missed.
As mentioned, Gray as much as hinted we were on the verge of signing someone in his interview last night. So this frees up the wage bill a bit.
Although, and I'm playing nothing more than devils advocate here, perhaps it might be the lack of home match revenue taking hold. Unlikely though.
Somewhat interestingly, that leaves Leon as the sole surviving player from the Bishop game in Aug 12. Amar being out on loan of course.

Surprised and disappointed Dowson has gone. A real team player who you could always rely on, and who's goal in the playoff semi will live long in the memory.
It's clear that MG must have someone lined up. He wouldn't have let Dowson go at this stage of the season if he didn't. It'll be interesting to see who it is, as I haven't seen any names mentioned, and he will have to be a good player to be an improvement on Dowson. Saying that, our last 2 surprise striker signings (Cartman and Gaskell) have certainly worked out well, so I'm not worried.
Best of luck to Dowson at Spennymoor.

Did we not have Gary Brown back then?dickdarlington wrote:Good luck Dowse. You've been fantastic for us. You'll be missed.

Shame to see Dowson go, but Purewal will need game time somewhere & I suppose this will be more limited by having Armstrong & Dowson on the bench.

Re: David Dowson has left to join Spennymoor Town
Is a player's pay related to appearances at this level or does a bench player get the same as a first team regular?
Re: David Dowson has left to join Spennymoor Town
The norm would be matchday fee on top of a flat contract fee. I don't know whether bat changes if you play or are an unused sub though.
Tbh I've thoughts Dowson was going to be the one to go for a while now, but he sticks it out and does his 20minutes a game.

Re: David Dowson has left to join Spennymoor Town
A shame but understandable move.
He really felt like he was a major part of the Darlo resurrection and sad to see him go, but his game time has been very limited and you can tell he just really loves playing.
All the best but perhaps we had just out grown him. My honest thought was that we would loose Armstrong before Dowson.

I reckon he made 100 starts + 48 from the bench scoring 48 goals (both spells).
That's a pretty good scoring rate. Always rated him, really disappointed to see him go.

Lowson was with us for a short while in the Conference, they also signed Pennal from us who made his debut the other week.Makka Pakka wrote:If their website is up-to-date, 9.AndyPark wrote:How many ex Darlo they got in the ranks now? Must be 9/10 surely.

Re: David Dowson has left to join Spennymoor Town
Obviously a massive part of our comeback through the leagues. I will always recollect his brilliant flick to set up 'the 3rd' against Spennymoor in the Northern League and of course his winner last season in the play off semi final. A total professional and probably the most athletic player we had the club in the past.
All the best to him.

Re: David Dowson has left to join Spennymoor Town
I suspect the Darlo/Spenny/Dowson situation has been brewing for a while and I wonder if Gray has asked Dowson to wait until Purewal is about fit to play - which seems to be now.
It will suit Purewal to come on with twenty minutes left, but not Dowson.
It's a shame, as with two games a week from now on, I'm sure Dowson would of got more time on the pitch, and he's good in big game situations.

That goal he scored on his debut against Aldershot was an absolute screamer. A very memorable game, the first of Colin Todd's ill-fated reign - Dean Windass' penalty miss summed up that whole season really.

Dowson has wanted to go since before Christmas from what I was told, he just wants to play.theoriginalfatcat wrote:I suspect the Darlo/Spenny/Dowson situation has been brewing for a while and I wonder if Gray has asked Dowson to wait until Purewal is about fit to play - which seems to be now.

However still expect Amar to head out on loan and someone to be incoming, perhaps soon.

A great team player, but his opportunities looked to be declining, so not a total surprise.
