Re: Match Thread
So are we to be fair, 6 wins in a row and 25 out of last 27 points.
"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883

Re: Match Thread
Great result, with Salford falling away, at this rate they'll struggle to make the play-offs.

Yeah true!Makka Pakka wrote:So are we to be fair, 6 wins in a row and 25 out of last 27 points.
The title race seems to be turning out a bit like last season. I'd still put Blyth as massive favourites due to the number of games we have to play, but if we could get a few games in hand played (and won of course) it might ramp the pressure up on them a bit.
On to Tuesday...

Re: Match Thread
I don't think Blyth are massive favourites, probably the team that drops points first, will become the underdogs.

For once Pete, I actually agree with you.Darlo_Pete wrote:I don't think Blyth are massive favourites, probably the team that drops points first, will become the underdogs.
There's a tendency to downplay your own side's chances. I'm sure any Blyth fan would say we're big favourites given we'd go top if we win our games in hand. Meanwhile Darlo fans will point to Blyth having points on the board and their easier run-in.
Makes it exciting but right now, us and Blyth are the best two sides in the league. It's close now and I think it'll stay that way until the end of the season.

Re: Match Thread
Well we're 2 games in to this run of 6 consecutive tough games with 6 points on the board. If we win all 6, we must be favourites.
10 wins out of 15 away from home, 4 points ahead of Salford with 3 games in hand. It's all going rather spiffing on the pitch

Oh I'm not doubting our ability. Gray has built a fantastic squad, and we are seeing that on the pitch. However, I just feel that to maintain our form playing twice a week every week until the end of the season will be a herculean effort, and that's what we will have to do if Blyth don't slow down a bit. It's possible we could, but I'd rather be in Blyth's position to be honest. Things can change very quickly though - that's one of things that makes football so exciting. The picture might look completely different this time next week!
Roll on Tuesday!

Another penalty win for Blyth .Those burgers carry a worrying slice of luck.
Re: Match Thread
Bit of a funny game today I thought - not many chances, we looked pretty solid apart from the last 10 and there were some nice passages of play. I've come away wondering what went on for a lot of the game though - maybe we did just cancel each out pretty much.
Very impressed with the togetherness, communication and way they play though. Not a lot of noise for most of the game and you could really see and hear them working as units. No surprise to see a good run put together and a team that will pull some games out of the bag at the last minute.
Took some time to watch Turnbull too - those who say he is good are right!
Special shout for Kev....the shot he stopped with his face was travelling and he did well to get back up and make another couple of cracking tackles as we were up against it.
Good 3 points.

Ilkeston. Haven't they just got rid of 9 first team players and now play the kids?Darlo_Pete wrote:Great result, with Salford falling away, at this rate they'll struggle to make the play-offs.
Salford's charming management team will be feeling the heat now - what with 4 points taken from the last 5 games and all that............
I do worry for them

Re: Match Thread
It was a game where we had to grind out a result today against quite a good team in very good form. The defence was exceptional, throwing themselves at everything that came towards them. The midfield all worked incredibly hard at closing people down although perhaps not at their creative best. The forwards (all 4) didn't have many clear chances but linked up well whenever they could. I can't remember Jameson having a save to make. The antics of their manager jumping up and down were hilarious as was their number 11 shouting '****ing cheats' as he came off the field. I think he was upset that a penalty wasn't given near the end but their player was clearly offside. Match ratings from me as below...
Jameson 6
Hunter 7
Galbraith 7
Burgess 8*
Brown 7
Scott 6
Turnbull 7
Mitchell 7
Thompson 7
Gaskell 7
Cartman 7
Armstrong 7
Hardy 6
Portas 6

Burgess 8*
Brown 7

Turnbull 7

Hardy 6

The Jameson save a few minutes before the final whistle secured the three points.

Re: Match Thread
According to their Twitter, their ground has a capacity of 2500. It looked pretty full today and there was less than 400
Re: Match Thread
Didn't think it was that full at all. Behind the goal with their band was mostly empty and the main bulk of the crowd was by the food.

Re: Match Thread
Ground out the 1-0 yesterday which seems similar to what Blyth did, I thought Turnbull, Burgess, Brown stood out but all the lads put the effort in. It was one of those days when as mentioned earlier the game was poor and not a lot memorable came out of it, other than winning.
Hardy looked sharp when he came on, might be wrong when I see more of him but seemed to play a little like Amar, hanging on the shoulder looking for the ball over top down the side.
Was happy to see us go back to the starting line up before Salford but Gray is going to need to swap this about to keep the lads sharp and hopefully niggle free, we will need to accept these changes.

Re: Match Thread
It was always going to be a tough game against an inform side on their own plastic pitch, the lads did a very good job closing down , passing wasn't as good ,although maybe it was, and the speed of ball off the surface caused problems ,the team played well and we won 3 points what more can you ask for.onwards and upwards darlo,
