2016/17 Squad

Post by JE93 » Tue Jun 14, 2016 7:57 am

With MG indicating that we can't expect too many comings and goings. Only a striker and that's only if the price is right. So currently our squad looks like:

GK:
Pete Jameson
Mark Bell

Defenders:
Liam Marrs
Chris Hunter
Gary Brown
Terry Galbraith
Jordan Watson
Kevin Burgess
Matt Lovegreen

Midfielders:
Tom Portas
Leon Scott
Adam Nowakowski
Phil Turnbull

Wingers:
Stephen Thompson
Adam Mitchell
Lewis Nightingale
Arron Wearmouth

Strikers:
Nathan Cartman
Lee Gaskell
Liam Hardy
Amar Purwal

Gives us a squad of 20. I think we're pretty well balanced. Expecting the Conf North to be a big step up especially against the teams fighting at the top of the league. Think we would do well to finish top 8-9 and build from there.

As for the squad I do think MG is right we are a big target man style striker light. But other than that like I said before we have good balance. I wonder what role, if any, loan players will play this season. As we rise up the leagues we become a more attractive destination for full time loan players and they could be a cost effective way to bring in quality.

Agree with all of that.

I think the squad is good enough to push for the play offs although only time will tell how great the step up is.

We're definitely getting nearer the level where Middlesbrough might be interested in sending us loanees.

I also think that if we are off the pace, Gray will manage to strengthen during the season, as he has always done in previous seasons. This might mean strengthening on a one in and one out basis, and certainly the current players deserve every chance to prove themselves at this level first.

I don't think that two or three seasons at this level will necessarily do us any harm anyway, there's always the danger of growing quicker than we can cope with.

We have two players in every position, which is ideal really.

We will be playing at the arena again next season - fact.

Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

What about Paul Weldon? Might of missed it if he has moved on, had a great game against Whitby.

From memory Paul Weldon plays more regularly in the northern league. But because of this he can be dual registered and also play with us in the Conf North although he will not be part of the regular squad which is why I left him out.

Judging by a comment made by him recently he won't be with us next year, and he's not very happy about it either.

Matty Lovegreen is missing from that list. Signed a 2 year contract at end of last season.

Lot stronger than our squad 12 months ago.

At that time we fans were hoping to reach the play-offs, but with the return of Brown and recruitment of two top strikers the team performed well above initial expectations.

The defence & midfield look far stronger now and we know about the skills and strengths of the remaining forwards.

Opposition defences should be better organised and/or stronger, so recruiting a tall target man striker seems wise, as he can maintain possession better for the team in the last third and convert more headed chances.

I must say that the last 4 seasons have been a pleasant adventure and that the club have done us proud, so fingers crossed for more entertainment and glory.

Has been nice to see the team develop as a unit, no matter who was on the pitch, everyone played their hearts out which is one reason we did so well. Just hope MG can achieve that same spirit and we enjoy another relatively injury free season. Not quite sure what would surprise me more, another promotion or being able to go to Blackwell Meadows next season to see the lads.

Definitely moving to BM next season would be more of a surprise.
