Re: Darlo v Stalybridge match thread
Thought we were 'very good' today. Some great football especially in the 2nd half. Tommo was excellent and deservedly walked off with the MOM. If we continue at this rate, the play-offs are definately within our grasp. Great support today, and only down in attendance figures due to a poor turn out of Stayley fans. One we get our influential players back, who knows what we could end up achieving. Onwards + upwards .
Re: Darlo v Stalybridge match thread
Lot of people are Sunderland or Boro fans and since those 2 are at home, the 'casuals' may be opting for watching Premiership sides.QuakerPete wrote:1231 - where's the missing 500?

We can expect them to return when they get sick of watching so-called professionals & mercenaries throw away points because they don't have the bottle, unlike our lads.

Re: Darlo v Stalybridge match thread
There were 500 less because it was Stalybridge. It was obvious Stockport would attract a far higher gate. Don't know why it's an issue. Let's celebrate a very good win rather than look for something to worry about. Today was a reminder that we are a real danger when we get the ball down and use our wingers. Beck did ok today, but wasn't involved in our first three goals. He is a useful tool to have, but we perhaps used him too much recently as the first line of attack. We mixed it up more today, and got the rewards.

I get paid on the 15th. Did I miss something or does everyone get paid on the same day?
"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883

No bloody parking ticket at Sainsbury's and a £30 fine. Looking round, most of the cars round where I was parked had them. I usually go in and get some shopping, well that's the last time I'll be shopping their, apart from getting fuel which is cheaper than back in Darlo.Spyman wrote:Did someone poo on your bonnet too?Darlo_Pete wrote:So who else got a nasty surprise when they got back to their car?

Beck has had a torrid time physically and mentally being the aerial target for so many ill conceived ugly attacks and unpunished foul play from opponents.HarryCharltonsCat wrote:There were 500 less because it was Stalybridge. He should be more relaxed & undamaged given a more standard role in a team playing joined up football, where I hope he can develop into a more effective team player.
Like Armstrong, he may be more able the space around him to finish off moves and set up other players.
The team are obviously more comfortable playing their robust probing style that has developed over recent seasons and with the classy new signings they are a real contender for promotion.
With injuries clearing up there will be a more solid and reliable defence again, so that the other players are more freed up to go forward in numbers.
Attendances should rise, after the recent debacle, if there is a run of better performances coupled with the B2D celebrations.

Re: Darlo v Stalybridge match thread
What debacle ? We have had some performances lately which have been lower than usual standard which, for the reasons Martin Gray gave, are completely understandable. Look how much better we played yesterday after a week off. I thought we might struggle to get to terms with this league and we've way exceeded my expectations. Now that the players can rest properly between matches our injury list will reduce and we'll see the performances to match the results but they really have done well so far, there's been no debacle.

Pretty decent performance. Falkingham looks a very good signing. Breaks most things up, and keeps things simple. Mind, Stalybridge were pretty awful.
Re the crowd, along with the increased away followings, another thing to consider is that Kidderminster and Stcokport are names people are familiar with. Still a decent crowd.
Falkingham I think he's going to do well at Darlo and earn himself a regular first team place. He tried his best last weekend at Lancaster to get something going within a tired and depleted team, and yesterday he was busy all through the game - nipping in, getting involved, working hard. Also, from a distance he looks a bit like Neil Heaney !!

Re: Darlo v Stalybridge match thread
Thought we were brilliant yesterday, Lancaster was no more than a blip. The crowd will be that Stalybridge arent as big a pull as Stockport, bit of a gap since the last home game and being out of town loses us hundreds Im convinced of that... But being in Bishop for as long as we have Im sure we've attracted a few locals who will come to Darlo when we move home. I met a new fan at the game yesterday, Glaswegian lad, in the military at Catterick, Rangers fan, started coming this season, even went away to Lancaster, and he's persuaded another mate/fellow soldier to start coming to games, lad from Swansea no less, so we're gaining fans all the time... And the Swansea-Darlo love in continues... There are 3 of us now

It's not a parking ticket, do some research as most of the time these private parking "tickets " are not enforceable. There's plenty of discussion around various forums on the subject.Darlo_Pete wrote:Only got fuel yesterday, not sure if I kept the receipt or not.Spyman wrote:Surely just produce your receipt which will have the time and date of your shopping and they'll drop it?Darlo_Pete wrote:No bloody parking ticket at Sainsbury's and a £30 fine. I don't understand why people park in Sainsbury's which has signs saying don't park here and we've known for years they will give out tickets if you do, when you can park in the industrial estate or Tesco for free.
I'm also amazed at the number of people driving back to Darlington or Northallerton that don't seem to know that the road is 60mph limit it! It makes me crazy to sit at 25 mph behind these idiots who then stay on their brakes going down hill!! Use your engine to control your speed down hill!

Re: Darlo v Stalybridge match thread
Apart from a slight wobble when they equalised, a really pleasing performance which showed that if we get it wide and in round the back of teams, we don't have to rely on hitting Beck's bonce with long balls. Thommo had a great match, fantastic finish for goal #4, but must credit Falkingham with nicking lots of possession in midfield then making good use of the ball. Pete Woolston did well and Jameson must be grateful he is only on loan, else his place would be in jeopardy. The makeshift back four couldn't keep a clean sheet, but good to see the depth of the talent in the squad as collectively did a good job. Subs came on and all had an impact, just a pity Scott's was not favourably viewed by the ref. Red card seemed v harsh. All in all, a great response to the Lancaster game and now the empty weekend should give everyone a well-deserved rest and a chance for those with injuries to get back to full fitness.

I never understand why so many people drive UNDER the speed limit, makes no sense. There's a 40 road near my house with signs saying 40 on them all the way along yet I'm regularly stuck behind people going 30. WHY? And the amount of people who drive 50/60 on the motorway makes no sense either.liddle_4_ever wrote:I don't understand why people park in Sainsbury's which has signs saying don't park here and we've known for years they will give out tickets if you do, when you can park in the industrial estate or Tesco for free.

Re: Darlo v Stalybridge match thread
Good solid win yesterday considering the injuries we still have in defence. The addition of Falkringham seems to have been a shrewd move but gives us even more competition for places in an area where we have been fairly heavily saturated. Thompson and Gillies give us a big threat down the sides and Falkringham, Portas and Turnbull gives us a CM who are all very comfortable on the ball. Hardy looked like the break had done him good. He has stepped up incredibly well to this level. Marrs again was solid and credit to Watson who I think is growing into being a Darlo player.
As for the red cards in the game. Don't know how the lad escaped one for the Portas challenge watching it in slow motion it's no wonder he caused and injury. Scott went in over the top of the ball and if it was against us I would have been calling for a red card and Madley deserved his 2 stupid yellow cards to level things up at 10 men each.
In general I think the rest has done us a lot of good and hopefully a 2 week break should mean Jameson, Burgess, Turnbull are back following injury to go into a tough away game against Brackley. If the team is back fit it gives MG some.big selection headaches.

There's times it's appropriate (e.g. poor visibility) but there was no excuse yesterday and this occurs after most games.DarloOnTheUp wrote:I never understand why so many people drive UNDER the speed limit, makes no sense. I think it's lack of knowledge, lack of knowledge of how to drive up and down hills and/or a lack of knowledge of the speed limit.
I was in a group a few years ago, about 20 people, all with full driving licences. We were each given a remove with A, B, C, & D options, they then put questions on the screen. For what is the speed limit in town 80% got it correct, for speed on the motorway about 60% got it right and speed limit on country roads/national speed limit less than 45% were correct! That makes me wonder why have signs that say national speed limit when there's so many people who don't now what that is? Surely it's more effective and not more expensive to just put a 60 sign?

National speed limit changes depending on what you are driving though.liddle_4_ever wrote:That makes me wonder why have signs that say national speed limit when there's so many people who don't now what that is? Surely it's more effective and not more expensive to just put a 60 sign?
Watching the highlights - deserved red card for Scott. How their player doesn't get a red card for the tackle on Portas though is baffling. Studs up and through the back of him - ridiculous decision.
