all over 4-1
Re: Darlo v Stalybridge match thread
I don't think our fans are *that* fickle that an away loss reduces the gate by around 30%.QUAKERMAN2 wrote:The Lancaster result certainly affected the gate

When I saw the length of the grass I was going to question MG's team selection but.........................good job I kept my big mouth shut! Seriously good reaction after last Saturday, well played lads.

Re: Darlo v Stalybridge match thread
Much, much smaller away following in comparison to teams like Stockport, Kiddy, Boston etc.QuakerPete wrote:1231 - where's the missing 500?

To put today's gate into context (again after being dumped out of the FA Cup):
19/09/15: Darlington FC 2-3 Hyde United (1,047)
Will definitely take gates being c200 up at this stage of the season, given the trend is for gates to fall season by season for clubs that play out of town!

Re: Darlo v Stalybridge match thread
Add the effects of ugly football that was being played before today, with key players being missing and a dash of weather and people voted with their feet.Beano wrote:I don't think our fans are *that* fickle that an away loss reduces the gate by around 30%.QUAKERMAN2 wrote:The Lancaster result certainly affected the gate

The prospects for promotion look a lot brighter when a weakened Darlo team can win by a margin, with a return to considered passing and movement rather than route one haste.
Re: Darlo v Stalybridge match thread
I didn't see much difference with how we played today with how we've played under Gray since 2012: get it forwards quickly, and then if/when winning we start passing it around.
Pretty decent performance. Falkingham looks a very good signing. Breaks most things up, and keeps things simple. Mind, Stalybridge were pretty awful.
Re the crowd, along with the increased away followings, another thing to consider is that Kidderminster and Stcokport are names people are familiar with. Still a decent crowd.

Re: Darlo v Stalybridge match thread
About the game, easy win could have been by more. They might have had a red when their lad went through the back of Portas on the stroke of half time, who went off injured. Too far away from the Scott incident to see what really happened. Their no 10, after getting a daft yellow for deliberate handball, then scythed down Marrs late and an easy decision for the ref.
Thommo was superb, excellent cross for the first and a great goal. Hardy was a close 2nd mind, almost had a hat-trick but for a goal-line clearance.

"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883
Re: Darlo v Stalybridge match thread
The tackle that took Portas out was calculated and disgraceful. It was satisfying to see the lads pick them apart and they were second best for virtually the entire game. A good win and a solid display despite the enforced changes before and during the game.

The difference was the balls forward had a purpose and an intended target that wasn't Mark Beck 90% of the time
