Crowdfunding for new players....

Kidderminster Harriers, that is....

Lend a hand, pick up rewards!
HARRIERS are aiming to be as competitive as possible during what promises to be a huge second half of the season.

To help give boss John Eustace and his squad an extra push, we're launching the Give it 100% for January campaign to raise extra funds to help recruit new players at Aggborough.

Work continues behind the scenes to generate extra revenue for the playing budget but, understandably, this must be done with caution and with the long-term security of the club in mind. The club has generated additional revenue from an FA Cup run this season but, in accordance with a strict business model - only 40% of this has been reinvested into the team - the same will be the case with any future revenue. That's how this campaign differs - 100% of this money will go straight into the 'playing budget' - every penny!*

Chairman, Colin Gordon, explains: "We're at a time during the season when teams are able to throw money at their squads to get promotion - that's not our ethos and that's not how we operate, but that does not mean we have no ambition. "We would like to be able to give money to the gaffer to help strengthen the team but excess funds just aren't down the back of the sofa waiting to be used. We can't rely on a long FA Trophy run or selling a player for 'X' amount and - even if we received money from those avenues, we have a duty to be responsible with that money and so only 40% of it would be reinvested in the team. That could give us something to spend - or nothing at all. The Give it 100% campaign will at least ensure we have something to work with and people will know that everything we get goes towards funding what we see on the pitch"

So what's the aim?
We're looking to raise as much as we can for a mini 'warchest.' There's no exact, set target in mind and no amount that we are bound to reach. So, can you give £10 to the cause? Can you spare more? If so, we've put together an awesome package of prizes to give you in return!

Would you enjoy free match or hospitality tickets, a signed shirt, a chance to train with the team or have an audience with the team management? Perhaps you'd like to be a Director for the day, or have your brand or business feature on our popular YouTube channel? Simply pick an amount to donate and there will be a prize to match! That way, you get something in return for your donation, and the gaffer gets that little bit extra to spend!*

The club will be required to pay listing fees on any final amount raised before receiving any balance.

Must admit, there didn't seem a lot wrong with the squad they've got when they played at our place and they have the added advantage of being full-time. But I think they feel one or two of their stars will be snapped up in the New Year. Maybe there's one or two fundraising ideas we could pick up on... although I'm not suggesting for new players.

I can see how this might give a temporary boost to the playing budget, but unless they can be certain of getting the same amount in future years then it just becomes like a windfall from a cup run - and they seem to take a very conservative approach to spending their cup money.

If they sign a few players on the basis of having enough extra funds for the rest of this season, or even a bit longer, what happens when the money is spent and the budget drops back to its pre crowdfunding level?

It's alright getting a player, how do you pay for the players wages? Must admit that they have used some imagination in ways that donors get some reward back.

Think it was a bit after that - would it have been about 96/97 or 97/98 season - during the very dubious late-Brierley or Peden era? There was all kinds of murkiness going on in those days, a lot of people forget some of that stuff which very nearly sent us to the wall before Uncle George the first "saved" us.

I might be wrong Bus, but I didn't start going home and away until 96 and I remember it.

It must have been about 1997: I say that because I am equally certain it was post Wembley 96 and by 98 we had signed Gabbas, which kind of covered the objective :D

So, which twat stole our DRASTIC money?

It wasn't knicked, it just failed to get near the target. I think it was abandoned around 7-8k and that was given to the youth team.

Still got my DRASTIC T-shirt!

Good article with Jim Platt.

Who did we end up bringing in? Naylor Dorner and Gabbiadini all followed shortly after didn't they, and Lee Ellison's second stint?

Speaking of Jim Platt, what happened to him after he left us? I thought he did an excellent job with us in testing circumstances.
