Ngandu gone
In the least surprising news of the day, the club has announced that Johnny Ngandu has been released.
That leaves just 2 of Clowning's signings on the books - none of the 14 he signed were any better than anything we already had.

Iv'e got to say he was one of the better signings under Howling - there weren't many though

Re: Ngandu gone
He was one of the better signings and yet he is bang average for the level and not capable of stringing 2 good performances together. He'd probably benefit by dropping a league and trying to rebuild from there.PierremontQuaker03 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 8:14 amIv'e got to say he was one of the better signings under Howling - there weren't many though
I think we will also release Siddik and Curry (assuming Asante is contracted), maybe try and hang on to the rest?
Maybe also Lawlor because of his back issues, but I wouldn't be against giving him another year.
Re: Ngandu gone
Another one who I’m not fussed about. Scored a cracking goal but again very inconsistent. No shocks with anyone that’s gone so far and all correct decisions. Very excited about who SW/TM bring in.

Re: Ngandu gone
Ngandu was ok. Technically decent, and had moments of inspiration, but not suited to the battle we were in. Wish him well for the future.
Re: Ngandu gone
I liked Ngandu. He added a bit of energy to a very lethargic midfield when he arrived. Good luck to him.

Re: Ngandu gone
Still looking for a midfield replacement for Lambert & Ngandu just wasn't up to scoring & creating like Jack.
Re: Ngandu gone
I think Hayden Lindley is still on our books as well as Siddick and Asante. He is currently on loan at Pontefact Collieries, but I think highly likely to be released in the near future.Ghost_Of_1883 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 8:12 amIn the least surprising news of the day, the club has announced that Johnny Ngandu has been released.

Didn't Cornish score about 7 in his 3 months playing for us.DavidCurriesMullet wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 10:03 amLet's be honest, we'll struggle to find anyone to score and create like Jack did.

Re: Ngandu gone
Jonny joined us in October 2023 from Stratford Town, and made 19 appearances, scoring two goals against Gloucester (which was the only goal of the game) and Chester.
Am I reading this wrong? Good luck to him.

Siddik needs to be released next, he is poor.Old Git wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 9:54 amI think Hayden Lindley is still on our books as well as Siddick and Asante. Lindley is decent on the ball but doesn't impact the game, even defensively.
Ngandu - the right decision to let go, same with Taylor.
I'd like to see the retained list be; Griffiths, Hedley, Lawlor, Lees, Sukar, Platt, Hatfield, Rivers, Cornish, Salkeld, Main, Nelson.
Unfortunately Asante will be on that list.
Maw & Harker are nothing more than Academy players for now.

On another note, why are we drip feeding our released list?

Re: Ngandu gone
He wasn’t poor at all but he hasn’t done enough under Watson to prove himself so no surprise at all to see him moved on.

Re: Ngandu gone
In my opinion, I would be looking for a new left back and a new right back with a bit of pace. Both Griffiths and Hedley were lost whenever a pacey winger was playing agaist them.. Clearly remember Hedley being scalded by the lad at Spendy, and Griffiths the same against Rushall.
When you look at our defence over the last two full seasons they have not been good enough. Even when we were top of the league our defense was one of the worst in the top half of the league at that time.

He really wasn't poor. At all. I've seen some players over the years who would fit that description.

Re: Ngandu gone
Correct, we need one (or two) full-backs who have pace. People seem to be in love with Hedley and Griffiths though. My opinion wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 12:15 pmIn my opinion, I would be looking for a new left back and a new right back with a bit of pace. Completely agree, none of our likely defenders are quick at all, probably the opposite.Yarblockos wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 12:25 pmCorrect, we need one (or two) full-backs who have pace. The cover that Dodds gave us last season at times simply because he was quick was excellent and something we lack actually across the whole team. Similarly, albeit a number of yrs ago, the number of times that Hunter made up for our centre halves lack of pace saved us many a goal.
Good news is that SW & TM will know this better than us.
Re: Ngandu gone
I don't think we are. The players who are left so far are ones who have announced that they are leaving at the end of their contract.Quakers2009 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 11:48 amOn another note, why are we drip feeding our released list?
Two different things I think.

Watching him at Spennymoor showed how poor he was. Completely off the pace.

Re: Ngandu gone
I don't think anyone loves either (maybe they do), however they are both dependable players who give you a steady away performance over a chunk of games and probably quite key is they are no doubt around average pay in a squad. They are also, especially Hedley are flexible in terms of positions and doing a job.Yarblockos wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 12:25 pmCorrect, we need one (or two) full-backs who have pace. Some pace in the back line would be quite decent. Think Burton from Hartlepool would be a decent signing but I doubt his contract is up and if he would be released. However he has pace, strong and aggressive, alongside some experience like Barrow at full back etc. would be very decent.
To afford players like Main, Hatfield, Platt etc. you also have to pad the squad out with some other dependable 6 out of 10 type players.
Re: Ngandu gone
I assume that SW/TM want to speak to each player on an individual basis and some of those going might depend on those offered terms who do or do not choose to stay. It is good practice to speak with individuals rather than finding out from a press release and there has been limited time since our final game of the season.Quakers2009 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 11:48 amOn another note, why are we drip feeding our released list?
Personally, I have no issue with that approach at all.

Re: Ngandu gone
6 i think, and 5 assists. He may well improve enough to be that creative spark we've been missing. Hopefully we'll get to see him for a full season.Ghost_Of_1883 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 10:07 amDidn't Cornish score about 7 in his 3 months playing for us.DavidCurriesMullet wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 10:03 amLet's be honest, we'll struggle to find anyone to score and create like Jack did.

Also, we will no doubt try and sign Barrow, who is a better player.
Re: Ngandu gone
To be fair to Ngandu, he actually played a big part in our survival by contributing goals in two games that helped us gain a crucial six points. Best of luck to him.

Re: Ngandu gone
Ngandu arguably Gowling’s best signing ? Apart from Burton I guess. I think he was alright and provided some creativity in key moments - but at the same time I bet he doesn’t stay at this level .
