Re: Alfreton v Darlo match thread
We played well first 10 minutes and last 10 minutes, but were a bit ordinary in between.
We have missed at least two sitters to put the game beyond Alfreton.

Fair play to all who have gone and the players.
I guess we just dont give up until the appeal is formally denied. Even if it's a rule, it's a stupid rule, and let's finish as high as we can to highlight it. Looking forward to Mondays game a bit more now.

Or it makes it look like we finished in the play-offs because we spent more money on the team, instead of spending it on the ground like other sides.H1987 wrote:Fair play to all who have gone and the players.

We hit the post a couple of times, so we should be more than 1 up. We are currently up to 4th.

Yes, but let's remember lots of those teams have long standing grounds of their own with good capacities. They haven't had to work their backsides off to get to where we are. Well done team.

Scott and Wearmouth on for Thompson and Syers

More than Salford, who we may well finish above and who have had a ground paid for by millionaires?Yarblockos wrote:Or it makes it look like we finished in the play-offs because we spent more money on the team, instead of spending it on the ground like other sides.H1987 wrote:Fair play to all who have gone and the players.

Re: Alfreton v Darlo match thread
Ok, so we'll appeal to the FA that its not fair because we haven't got a multi-millionaire owner. Neither have lots of teams. We get more fans through the gate than most teams at this level, yet they managed to get their grounds up to scratch. They obviosuly took things one step at a time. Stadium then team. If we knew the rules we could have budgeted accordingly. We fucked up, lets stop blaming everyone else for our own predicament.Spyman wrote:More than Salford, who we may well finish above and who have had a ground paid for by millionaires?Yarblockos wrote:Or it makes it look like we finished in the play-offs because we spent more money on the team, instead of spending it on the ground like other sides.H1987 wrote:Fair play to all who have gone and the players.

3-0 FT Great result and performance today, let's hope it counts for something at the end of the season.

We have grown faster on the pitch than off it. That's the long and short of it. I'm not sure that even if we had known the ground grading regs properly we'd be in a position to go up this season. We may have spent more on players this season than we needed to but up until this week nobody has complained about being in the mix for promotion.
We need to focus on developing off the pitch while maintaining what we've got on the pitch. I'd say avoiding going back to square one in terms of leadership is now quite important.
Time to move on.

Re: Alfreton v Darlo match thread
So impressed with the players. I feared after the news we might be deflated and roll over. They've done themselves a massive credit today.
Re: Alfreton v Darlo match thread
Or the pressure being off then they relaxed.
BTW I don't think that spending a larger budget this season is a waste. We've grown the team in a year. They're getting better and better and hopefully if MG can keep the team together then we'll be up there next year. Also MG has been able to experiment with formations.

Re: Alfreton v Darlo match thread
The biggest irony for me is that revenue from the play-offs would pay for the seated stand, for which we already have planning permission, which would then be constructed in advance of next season. Stupid bloody rule.

The revenue would be nowhere near that amount, but would be welcome all the same. The Golden Hairclip wrote:The biggest irony for me is that revenue from the play-offs would pay for the seated stand, for which we already have planning permission, which would then be constructed in advance of next season. Re: Alfreton v Darlo match thread
Just got back... Played well against a very poor side and should of been at least 6 or 7 haven't got a clue how it weren't but a good win,, left the ground feeling more deflated than when I heard the news it's such a bloody shame, the atmosphere with the darlo fans were very very flat and you could see by MG at the end that he were very dejected and so were the players but credit to them they are winners... Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!
Re: Alfreton v Darlo match thread
I'm hoping the disappointment and resentment from this situation will be fire in the bellies of the players and staff for next year.
All in all it has been a fantastic season. Remove the slump post Harrogate away and we're fighting for the title, which is not only impressive, but quite remarkable.
Whatever happens I hope can grow our support next season and give the team the support it deserves.
