Re: The Telford situation
Talked to a few Telford officials after the game on Saturday, nice people and I'm pleased they avoided relegation. Hope things work out for them off the pitch as well.

yes the same Pete. the manager has already accepted that the club won't be able to compete in the North without further funding.

Slightly different in that they are a Co-operative rather than a Community Benefit Society, a co-operative being for the mutual benefit of their members while we are set up for the benefit of the wider community.

Ok thanks for that ckarification. Their manager seems to have accepted a budget cut.Mr_Tibbs wrote:Slightly different in that they are a Co-operative rather than a Community Benefit Society, a co-operative being for the mutual benefit of their members while we are set up for the benefit of the wider community.

Out of curiosity and not a dig, what wider community benefit do Darlington provide via their CBS than Telford do via their Co-op structure and why was a CBS chosen as opposed to a co-operative?

They're fair questions. We might all have our own ideas what the wider community might be - the economy of the town? Relationships with schools to give kids something else to do than rip wing mirrors off cars?spen666 wrote:Mr_Tibbs wrote:Slightly different in that they are a Co-operative rather than a Community Benefit Society, a co-operative being for the mutual benefit of their members while we are set up for the benefit of the wider community.

It's all in the wording of what we're set up to do, and I think the DFCSG is allowed to invest in other community-oriented ventures too, not just the football team.
As for why we were set up as a CBS instead of a Co-operative I don't really know, except that it came about as the merger of the Trust, Supporters Club, and the Community Interest Company which was the first vehicle we used to band together and save the club during the time of the interim board.
It may have been a requirement that we carry on with the same community benefits of the CIC that we became a CBS, I don't really know, but all members of those 3 groups voted on it.
Best answers I can give from memory.

The significant difference is that the business of DFCSG is to be conducted for the benefit of the community served by the football club and not for the profit of its members,spen666 wrote:Mr_Tibbs wrote:Slightly different in that they are a Co-operative rather than a Community Benefit Society, a co-operative being for the mutual benefit of their members while we are set up for the benefit of the wider community.

whereas a co-operative society is a business that distributes its profits amongst its members.
