This rumour makes little sense, we have signed Collins,Brown and Burgess have just signed new contracts and we still have Chris Hunter and Terry Galbraith to slot in when needed,6 centre backs seems crazy.Lets just see what MG comes up with, impossible to predict at the moment.Quakers83 wrote:There were strong rumours earlier this week that we were looking at another CB so it wouldn't come as a surprise.Darlo_CR wrote:I think we can rule out Grand now that we've singed Collins.

Re: Local clubs released list
As I mentioned it was just rumours that had surfaced. MG always looks to improve the squad and he has openly admitted that last season was not good enough.
I remember last season the signings of Bartlett and Ferguson were criticised. In particular Bartlett as we had Wilczynski at the time yet Bartlett quickly proved himself (despite unnecessary scrutiny) and in my opinion he is the best goalkeeper we've had since the Northern League.
If the right player becomes available then Gray is typically interested regardless of who we have on our books.

Re: Local clubs released list
It'll be great having four centre backs sitting in the stands that we can't afford to build.

Re: Local clubs released list
The Echo did confirm we were looking at a striker with National League experience, so can't see how it'll be another CB.
Re: Local clubs released list
The striker with National League experience is the trialist. MG confirmed that we were working with potential players on the training ground and also talking to players who were speaking to other clubs.Darlo_Pete wrote:The Echo did confirm we were looking at a striker with National League experience, so can't see how it'll be another CB.

Re: Local clubs released list
Rumours that National League striker is Richard Brodie. If true, seeing as he's already sacked us off twice for more money, Gray must rate him far more highly than me to give him another chance.
Re: Local clubs released list
Said it a million times before, and not one person has ever agreed with me - but I'd sign Brodie no problem.
On form, he's a tremendous striker for this level (and the one above).
If he's on trial then he must prove himself and get in good enough shape to get a contract. If he gets a deal, then if anyone can get him playing Gray can.
If he slacks or is not good enough, Gray will get rid.
Beck and a fit, interested Brodie could be some partnership, a proper handful for defences.

WE AINT BOTHERED.
Re: Local clubs released list
No doubt a Brodie in form is a great weapon at this level. The only problem for me is that he hasn't been at that level for so long. He's not stayed at a club more than a year since 2010, in which time he's had 13 different spells at 11 different clubs (2 spells with both York and Southport). That just screams to me that he is disruptive or isn't the right kind of character that you want at your club.Quakerz wrote:Said it a million times before, and not one person has ever agreed with me - but I'd sign Brodie no problem.

Still hoping we can pull of a coup for Billy Paynter he could tear up this level.

Jesus, can you imagine the style of football required for Beck and Brodie to succeed. Are they not just the same player, at different stages of their careers?Quakerz wrote: Beck and a fit, interested Brodie could be some partnership, a proper handful for defences.

Re: Local clubs released list
Brodie more your silky skilled, conjure something out of nothing striker then? Not a big battering ram you shoot the ball at and hope he wins the flick on/holds up for attack to join in? Good on him that he's changed since I last saw him.
Re: Local clubs released list
Brodie is more than just a target man.

Brodie has proven quality and is a goal scorer.
Providing he is on trial with us I'd be more than happy to see us give him a chance.

Re: Local clubs released list
He's also consistently unfit, has a questionable professionalism off the pitch and is pretty much guaranteed at least a yellow a game for mouthing off to the ref about absolutely anything.Quakers83 wrote:Brodie has proven quality and is a goal scorer.

Double edged sword.

Re: Local clubs released list
I'd be surprised if Brodie proves himself. He has been unable to shift the weight for 2 or 3 years now - I wasn't overly impressed with him last season. He was with Southport at the back end of last season and I thought he lived basically by Haig Avenue I just expect him to end up there.
Last season was great!? What else did MG expect us to achieve last season - we were never going to win the thing against Fylde.Quakers83 wrote:As I mentioned it was just rumours that had surfaced. MG always looks to improve the squad and he has openly admitted that last season was not good enough.
A player suddenly becoming available is massively different to offering new contracts to existing players whilst actively searching for their replacements.Quakers83 wrote:I remember last season the signings of Bartlett and Ferguson were criticised. Re: Local clubs released list
I'd be disappointed if it was Brodie, a player definitely on a downward spiral, but I do trust MG judgement and if he thinks he can do a job for us, then that's all that matters.
Re: Local clubs released list
Dial B for Brodie.
The B-Team will fire us into the play offs again.

I don't really know what your point is with the last comment.

Beck, Brodie and Cartman, The BBC indeed.
Re: Local clubs released list
1. Rumour of getting a new CBQuakers83 wrote:I don't really know what your point is with the last comment.
2. Challenged on basis we already have a new CB and have recently resigned two players on new contracts - maybe it would be better for that money to be spent on the stand
3. You challenged on basis that MG has shown with the likes of Bartlett that MG will sign players where he thinks it improves squad
4. I said there is a big difference between the sudden availability of a professional player (Bartlett retired on the spot at Hartlepool to take a coaching role at Boro) and an actual 'search' for a new player.
The point I was making was that your point about Bartlett as it if was a like for like scenario wasn't quite as simple as that.

No? You're reading way too much into my post.lo36789 wrote:1. Rumour of getting a new CBQuakers83 wrote:I don't really know what your point is with the last comment.

I also mentioned Ferguson in the same post who replaced Galbraith around mid-way through the season and he signed from Shildon.
Who has already signed, who has recently signed contracts, or where we get these potential players from is irrelevant as MG looks to improve regardless and he has a track record of doing so.
We may end up signing a young CB from a lower division, not necessarily the sudden availability of a professional player. Who knows as it's all speculation.

Gray must really want to give him a go after dropping us twice already.

Re: Local clubs released list
Last few years his fitness has been cited as a problem for clubs that brought him in, hopefully Gray can solve that issue and make him into the striker he can be.super_les_mcjannet wrote:Been with us since training restarted I believe.Darlofan97 wrote:Brodie confirmed as a trialist that will feature tomorrow by the Northern Echo.
