Wednesday nights

Post by m62exile » Sun Sep 17, 2017 1:15 pm

One of the many questions keeping me awake last night after that performance was this one. Exactly why do we choose to play our midweek games on a Wednesday night rather than a Tuesday? There must be a reason.

Obviously It doesn’t excuse such a tepid performance but I wonder why we choose to have a days less rest than we could have. Just seems to be a disadvantage that we don’t need to give ourselves.

Not a biggy in the scheme of things but I just wondered.

Training should be put round the matches for instance
Monday training ,match Wednesday, light session Thursday, match Saturday.
Hard work should of been done in pre season but some go on holiday the weeks before season starts so that's defeating the object.

No idea what relevance this has. We chose it like we did at Heritage Park. There are a few clubs who choose Monday night as their midweek which does make some sense you only get 2 days rest after Sunday games but that is the same for both clubs - you basically get yourself additional rest before Saturday.

We played one season (Evo Prem Season) at Bishop when we were supposed to be going back to Darlo and we got Tuesday nights. Then we never got back and Bishop had to play on Wednesday nights but were not happy with it so the next season we had to put down Wednesday (Nat North last season).

Clearly we haven't been able to swap to Tuesday's no doubt because of the Rugby training mentioned above, Gray made it very clear previously he wanted to play Tuesday so he could still complete training on a Thursday night.

Just something we have to accept I think.

Yep but both teams get the same time off Sat to Wed, where on Sat you play someone who played Mon/Tue compared to your Wednesday.

It's an advantage to the team who has had more rest, how much who knows.

Yep that was the point I was making Les, if you’re getting in early hours of Thursday morning it’s undoubtedly tougher to prepare as well for the following Saturday game.

Trouble is can`t use it as an excuse as we don`t play that many midweek games

Avoid clashes with local sides like Boro and Sunderland. The Championship usually has Tuesday night games, especially Boro, we may be looking to avoid clashes as fans watch us both?
