Harry Dunn
Re: Harry Dunn
My favourite manager was Cyril Knowles. Recruited amazingly well all the Boro/Newcastle/Sunderland cast-offs on a shoestring and built them in to a fabulous team. Ironically those cast-offs then went and beat Boro in the FA Cup. Should never have been sacked as we just couldn't afford to keep the club in Division 3. Now someone like that...Wasn't that his first job?
Re: Harry Dunn
Yes it was Cyril's first managerial job - came to us from his job as assistant manager to John Neal at Boro. Similar appointment to Brian Little (although he had had a month in charge at Wolves). A few years before Cyril Billy Elliott came to us from Sunderland (another first managerial job) and lasted four years. At one stage his coach George Herd was let go to save money and Billy was running the show on his own, with crowds struggling to get above 1000. Quite a contrast to the MG years with assistant, coach, goalkeeping coach, physio, etc. etc.Vodka_Vic wrote:My favourite manager was Cyril Knowles.
