Smith and Toman
Smith and Toman
Mentioned in the Echo!
Jesus, they're 20 years out of touch.
Still, at least they're ex-Darlo

Re: Smith and Toman
I think it's been mentioned as in "interviewed and not told anything either way" and not in a "are first choice" way. I hope so anyway!

Re: Smith and Toman
They're good lads and are Darlo through and through, the major prerequisite that must be met to be considered as a viable candidate.

Re: Smith and Toman
I saw someone on twitter say Gary Brown is passionate so we should go with him. Obviously he is current Darlo which is even better than being ex-darlo.
Re: Smith and Toman
I believe they have zero chance of getting the job. It was probably just to massage Smiths deluded ego....

Re: Smith and Toman
Toman was a disaster as manager of Northallerton Town!, regularly threatened the players with not being paid if they didnt win, managed to get a mid-table 1st division team relegated by falling out with and releasing all the decent experienced players

Re: Smith and Toman
I am Darlo through and through, won the Champions League with Darlo and the World Cup with England and can wprk to set budgets on Football Manager on my phone. Therefore I should be a viable candidate.quaker4life wrote:They're good lads and are Darlo through and through, the major prerequisite that must be met to be considered as a viable candidate.
As much as I want someone who is Darlo through and through, it should not be the main factor in who the job is offered to.

Alun's promise to the fans: “I’ll make sure I’ll bring players in that are value for money and I want players that want to play for Darlington Football Club, want to progress and move up the league and show the fans that passion.”

Re: Smith and Toman
if you look at the current top end of the premier league, only two or three have managers that played at a decent level before coming managers. and none of them had any connection with the club they currently manage previously.
am sure we will appoint the best possible candidate we can based on ability and nothing else. worked well when we appointed Cyril Knowles and Brian Little.

Re: Smith and Toman
How many more people can be associated with the job, this is bordering on the ridiculous and if we're not careful we'll become the laughing stock of non-league football, if we're not already there.

More likely to get Sid Little or Ralph Little

I know Andy Toman, he did my UEFA B Badge and Level 2 Badge a few years back when he was in charge of Middlesbrough College Academy. I’m sure he is in Norway now though. If he is prepared to come back then let’s give them in until the end of the season and see what happens.

No.
For fucks sake, what is it with fans of this fucking club wanting fucking ex players in charge.

1) That's the same at pretty much any clubAndyPark wrote:No.

2) We can't stop ex-players applying
Re: Smith and Toman
Probably because they only know a little about ex players, many fans don't know anything about other managers (either employed or unemployed) at this level.AndyPark wrote:No.

I have to say, I wouldn't discount a manager just because he played for us in the past, I want our manager to be the best from whoever wants the job.

Oh absolutely, and Alun Armstrong looked an attractive candidate whether he'd played for us or not.shawry wrote:

Tommy Wright looked a viable candidate, if not an overly exciting one, regardless of his previous time spent with the club.
Kevan Smith and Andy Toman are miles wide of the sort of profile we should be looking at, again regardless of what they did as players quarter of a century ago.

I'm frightened to emerge from behind the sofa at present for fear at what i'm going to read next.
Re: Smith and Toman
You really shouldn't have admitted that. Cue thread titles such as 'Kevan Smith appointed manager' and you'll click on the link and it'll say'Of local cleaning business' or 'White rejects Darlington' and it'll be about Marco-Pierre White turning down the chance to open a restaurant in the town centre. Possibly instigated by Quakerz.LoidLucan wrote:I'm frightened to emerge from behind the sofa at present for fear at what i'm going to read next.

Re: Smith and Toman
I do find it hard to believe that Smith was one of the seven ‘top candidates ‘ to be interviewed, if this is the case, why? What on earth could he offer the club , how can he relate to the players, and most of all the fans. He is from a bygone age, he is remembered with nostalgia ,a great captain in his day. If football management was for him he would of pursued that career. If that’s our only option then I honestly do give up.

Re: Smith and Toman
Where are the candidates with FL experience? Or the one with international experience? If this was the calibre we got why are we now left with chasing nobodies that don't even want to manage us anyway?

Re: Smith and Toman
the academy won a major award. I'm sure Toman is qualified to A level. I agree he should be given a chance not because of nostalgia but because he holds some good credentials. the counter argument is his lack of experience in the big leagues but I think we are past that filter now.Darlojohn99 wrote:I know Andy Toman, he did my UEFA B Badge and Level 2 Badge a few years back when he was in charge of Middlesbrough College Academy. I believe the Tomans are among Northallerton’s hardest families. This plus his little ‘tache of old and his midfield genius makes him the ideal candidate, apart from Alan White

A Toman and White partnership - would spend all their time sat in the stands.grimsbyquaker wrote:I believe the Tomans are among Northallerton’s hardest families. This plus his little ‘tache of old and his midfield genius makes him the ideal candidate, apart from Alan White

Re: Smith and Toman
I believe White is quite articulate and measured when our side of the white line. Can’t speak for Toman’s level of radgedness. As Martin Gray might say...’Ray, they football people like what we are...’

Graeme Lee has a very good job at Middlesbrough in the academy these days after Jenkins left.
