Gary Martin
Gary Martin
Get him signed
Re: Gary Martin
I don't get the joke - this is the striker York signed a couple of weeks ago who is off the Norway in January, isn't it? Has something happened?

Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

Re: Gary Martin
I think he had a difference of opinion with Gray and his stay ended prematurely.

To think the signs were there...my comment on the Mark Beck thread from the day he signed for York...

Re: Gary Martin
The 'difference of opinion' being that his instagram page had a video of him and his mates chanting that Martin Gray is a 'paedo'.
Aside from it being funny how unprofessional that is, get him signed until January.

Re: Gary Martin
Why?
He's scored 1 goal v Coalville and not really impressed that much for York.
He's played for a Sunday team when he's not supposed to, showing how much disregard he had for his agreement with York.
He could only play a maximum of 3 matches for us anyway.
He's from Darlo but supports Man U.
Not got a lot going for him really, I'd rather stick with Caton.

Re: Gary Martin
It's not like it is hidden the videos of him playing for Darlington Albion on facebook with match reports naming him
I doubt he cares York was a stop gap before going back to professional football anyway.

One of the lads I know is his best mate and said he does support Darlington and also said he would play for Darlo for free.

Showed an absolutely appalling attitude to the club who were paying his wages, non contract or not.notgnilrad wrote:One of the lads I know is his best mate and said he does support Darlington and also said he would play for Darlo for free.

As has been said above he would only be available for 3 games so it would be a pointless waste of wages.
If it wasn't Martin Gray you wouldn't be saying sign up.
Long story short, no.

Re: Gary Martin
We'd be foolish not to get him in for the 3 games.
Styche aside, he is a class above our alternatives.

He's managed only one goal for York and that was against Coalville in the FA Trophy in the weekend.
And even if he did score you can bet your house and car we'd concede many more at the other end.
I wish I could be that deluded.

Re: Gary Martin
Only played a few games so better goal to games than our strikers? Apart from the new boy of course.
Re: Gary Martin
Weren't we in for him at the same time as York initially? I'd still take him tbh even if its only three games. He scored a belter for them on the weekend.notgnilrad wrote:One of the lads I know is his best mate and said he does support Darlington and also said he would play for Darlo for free.

Re: Gary Martin
My lad is a York fan and goes to most of the matches (has been an interesting couple of months in our family!), but he didn't rate Gary Martin at all
Re: Gary Martin
Given our dearth of strikers it's an absolute no brainer to bring in another even if it just gives another option for the next 4 weeks. If he's willing to play for next to nothing even better. We've not really got anything to lose
Re: Gary Martin
If he signed for a month then it wouldn't be much different to having a player on loan for a month.
I wouldn't be against him coming for a month to give us an extra option up front as long as he didn't want too much money.

Re: Gary Martin
No brainer for me, if he doesn't want much money. Plus, it's funny.
It'd be funnier if he doesn't sign for Lillestrom until later in January, and played against York like.

Re: Gary Martin
If we don't, you can just about guarantee Spennymoor will. Would be great to boost our striking options, even if short term.

Re: Gary Martin
Piecing together the intrigue behind this, it goes something like this. Gary Martin comes on as a sub for Darlington Albion in a match against Sedgefield St Edmunds, a team that Martin Gray played for many moons ago.
St Edmunds have been 3-0 up at one stage but Albion, aided in part by their star sub, complete an amazing comeback to win the game 4-3. There's a pitch invasion and jubilant scenes among the travelling fans. St Edmunds are distraught and the only revenge that is left open to them is.... Ring, ring... "Hello, is that Martin Gray....?"
It's always a dish best served cold...

Re: Gary Martin
To those saying no, let's say he signs for us for a few games, takes little or even no money for it and plays 5 mins as a sub and doesn't score... have we lost anything?

"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883

He wasn't involved in the singing. That all happened after Gray rang him and told him he was sacked.theoriginalfatcat wrote:Footballers are hilarious aren't theyMakka Pakka wrote:Does this not concern anyone?H1987 wrote:The 'difference of opinion' being that his instagram page had a video of him and his mates chanting that Martin Gray is a 'paedo'.

Apparently he is playing in a trial game with a few other trialists tonight.
