Looking at the table, a draw probably would be the best result, followed by a Gainsborough win, with a Leamington win being the least prefered result, as it may well give them a lot more confidence before they play us next Saturday.

Teams don't need any confidence when they play us, They know they will be gifted a goal so that's what they need to hang on to... It's our confidence that's where the problem lies...Darlo_Pete wrote:Looking at the table, a draw probably would be the best result, followed by a Gainsborough win, with a Leamington win being the least prefered result, as it may well give them a lot more confidence before they play us next Saturday.

Yeh but it won't help matters if Gainsborough win tonight.HarrytheQuaker wrote:Teams don't need any confidence when they play us, They know they will be gifted a goal so that's what they need to hang on to... Aye Alfreton won 4-1 on the weekend as well - "new manager bounce"

Big pressure now on Saturdays game, surely about time we start to produce some clean sheets, if we keep with 3 at the back and not bring in a CH or left wing back then we will continue leaking goals.Have to start winning matches now, draws will not keep us up.tdk1 wrote:Also, they changed their underperforming manager.QUAKERMAN2 wrote:Sure they have made a couple of signings and are getting results, really surprising no player activity from us.HarrytheQuaker wrote:Alfreton 1 up

Re: GAINSBOROUGH vs LEAMINGTON Tonight
If Gainsborough lose tonight and lose Saturday, we win Saturday, I think Gainsborough are as good as gone - I can't seeing it being this tight at the end of the season - I think another team will fall away in the next few games (hopefully it wont be us) and then it will be a bun fight for that 3rd relegation place.

Seriously, other teams are all picking up points, but us. One of the reasons is the fact that when we play any team in the top half we s*** our pants. How many bloody points will we need to stay up this year?

Re: GAINSBOROUGH vs LEAMINGTON Tonight
Points won't matter Adam as we keep needing to score 3 to win games.Absolutely vital to stand any chance of avoiding the drop we need to start being more defensive, would we have scraped a 1-0 at Blythe tonight, don't think so .Vodka_Vic wrote:Winning at Blyth? Not a chance Ron, but had we lost there would have been the attitude that 'Oh well, it was an unwinnable game anyway. We've got easier games coming up'.
Re: GAINSBOROUGH vs LEAMINGTON Tonight
Results wise that couldn't have gone much worse for us.
Won't matter anything if we don't start doing the business ourselves, and the so called easier games aren't coming our way until March. I can appreciate when a manager wants to play his own formation but when you're a part time team and you don't have perfectly suited players... why not wait till the summer. More players will become available to play that system and you will have time on the training pitch and friendlies to bed in new formations.
Looking at our run to the end of the season and in this form ots hard to see where the points come from:
LEAMINGTON VS DARLINGTON
DARLINGTON VS BLYTH SPARTANS
BRADFORD PARK AVENUE VS DARLINGTON
BRACKLEY TOWN VS DARLINGTON
DARLINGTON VS KIDDERMINSTER HARRIERS
TAMWORTH VS DARLINGTON
DARLINGTON VS CURZON ASHTON
DARLINGTON VS NORTH FERRIBY UNITED
AFC TELFORD UNITED VS DARLINGTON
DARLINGTON VS SOUTHPORT
SPENNYMOOR TOWN VS DARLINGTON
DARLINGTON VS BOSTON UNITED
FC UNITED OF MANCHESTER VS DARLINGTON
DARLINGTON VS NUNEATON TOWN
STOCKPORT COUNTY VS DARLINGTON
Need to be solid and hard to beat. We've thrown away 5 points in the last three games. If Wright and White wants to last (and I'd love to see him succeed) they need to make us hard to beat. Also the players need to stand up and be counted. Too many are under performing. If they want fans on their side give us a performance to support. I don't care if we win ugly or become set piece specialists as we were in the evo Stik. Points on the board are far more value than the formation or players you play to get them.
Leamington on Saturday is a must win game. We need something to get the ball rolling and carry into tough games against Blyth and Brackley. 5 points out of the next 3 games is my minimum requirequirment. Or I fear I will be all but done with the Wright and White era.

Whilst I agree in terms of team strengthening, who do you want to lend us the money then and when do you think we can pay them back?QUAKERMAN2 wrote:Yes but what would be the cost if we went down, other teams are doing it and starting to get results.

Should the fans raise it now or Johnston/Tempest put the money in, this is the problem we have currently?
Other clubs like Southport etc. are throwing money in as they are in trouble, we don't have the money.

Loan signings from our big neighbours if possible, but we have to try something.Ideally move some players on, difficult I know thanks to MG but our squad is wafer thin especially at the back which is where our problems lie.super_les_mcjannet wrote:Whilst I agree in terms of team strengthening, who do you want to lend us the money then and when do you think we can pay them back?QUAKERMAN2 wrote:Yes but what would be the cost if we went down, other teams are doing it and starting to get results.

Some whinged when Ed was moved on and we were left with loan signings from Sunderland & Boro as goalkeepers.QUAKERMAN2 wrote:Loan signings from our big neighbours if possible, but we have to try something.Ideally move some players on, difficult I know thanks to MG but our squad is wafer thin especially at the back which is where our problems lie.super_les_mcjannet wrote:Whilst I agree in terms of team strengthening, who do you want to lend us the money then and when do you think we can pay them back?QUAKERMAN2 wrote:Yes but what would be the cost if we went down, other teams are doing it and starting to get results.

I do believe Wright is looking to make some signings but he doesn't have it easy in terms of budget and moving players out.
When your talking about moving players on who would give up on a contract with say 25k/30k left on it, if you are not getting offered that elsewhere?
Hopefully a gap can be created and bring in one or two experienced players but I don't think it will be easy, Wright really has to get the best out of those he has already.

That magic money tree again. Moan about Gray throwing money we didn't have at it, then argue we should be doing the exact same thing again. And you'll only get players from the big three if they think it's in their interests to loan them out. It's not guaranteed. Pears is Liddle doing us a favour. Whether a bunch of academy kids would be the answer is debatable anyway.

Re: GAINSBOROUGH vs LEAMINGTON Tonight
Agree with this. The answer can't always spend/loan your way out of trouble. It's part of the reason we are where we are. I remember raising this at the start of the season and some on here wouldn't have it that we were spending beyond our means. Those people are keeping rather quiet now.HarryCharltonsCat wrote:That magic money tree again. I thought one of the big draws of Tommy Wright was that he was willing to build a team long-term. At least according to some of his most ardent backers on here it was.
And it's not like Wright hasn't been given any opportunity to sign players. We've brought in around half a dozen since he took over.
And you're also correct on the academy players point as well. Given they lack 1st team experience, is it wise to be throwing youngsters into a competitive relegation battle?
Re: GAINSBOROUGH vs LEAMINGTON Tonight
We should be living within our means fact everyone is panicking saying we need to make signings in an ideal world yes we would but TW is working to a budget something MG never did. It is refreshing to know we are not wracking up huge debt chasing a dream as a fan owned club we must live within our means and that is probably mid table in this division.Darlogramps wrote:Agree with this. TW has managed to bring in 5 or 6 players and they have all improved the team even if results don't say that. It is difficult as was mentioned trying to ship players out when they have a contract worth 10,20 and in some cases 30k put yourself in the players shoes would you walk away from a years salary and move to another club on half the money course not.
We are reaping what MG sowed right now and we need to show patience.

Re: GAINSBOROUGH vs LEAMINGTON Tonight
The problem with this is that if we spend money and still go down. We would then start next season in a lower division, looking to make playing budget cuts, instead of being able to invest in new players. It would be a massive gamble that I don't think we should take. The players we have should take responsibility for where we find ourselves and get us out of this mess.QUAKERMAN2 wrote:Yes but what would be the cost if we went down, other teams are doing it and starting to get results.

Re: GAINSBOROUGH vs LEAMINGTON Tonight
Take your point Pete but we are wafer thin at the back and we will go down if we do not strengthen here or in midfield. We all know money is tight and the MG contracts nightmare but we have lost Collins and looks like Portas has injury problems.Tommy has no money to play with so it will be very tough to stay up with our current squad being so stretched.Darlo_Pete wrote:The problem with this is that if we spend money and still go down. Re: GAINSBOROUGH vs LEAMINGTON Tonight
Coles is spot on, we’re seeing light at the end of the financial tunnel. First task is to survive financially so that we have a club in following seasons. It really shouldn’t be difficult for fans to understand this concept after close run-ins during past five years. Second task is to secure safety this season, but it’s not a club-killer like the firstcoles wrote:We should be living within our means fact everyone is panicking saying we need to make signings in an ideal world yes we would but TW is working to a budget something MG never did.
