Gainsborough were previously tied with Southport with the worst goal difference (-17), now it’s (-22), only North Ferriby are worse. They will need one more point than 3rd bottom at the end of the season if they are down there, they need a 3-0 win like Darlington on Saturday to help them improve (-22).

This week’s Bottom 10 games

09/02 Friday
FC UTD MAN....... vs Chorley

13/02 Saturday
Bradford............ vs DARLINGTON (3.00)
ALFRETON......... vs Tamworth
Boston.............. vs CURZON ASHTON
GAINSBOROUGH vs SOUTHPORT
LEAMINGTON….. vs Harrogate
Stockport.......... vs NUNEATON
TELFORD........... vs NORTH FERRIBY

Comment;
Two teams who have a chance to improve their position with a gentler fixture run this month compared to everyone else.

1) Southport, how often does a team in 5th bottom place have three games in a row with teams all below them. They have to get 5 points, a win over North Ferriby and two draws, maybe even two wins and a draw with the home game with Curzon Ashton
10/02 Gainsborough (A)
17/02 North Ferriby (A)
24/02 Curzon Ashton (H)

2) Telford, four home games against bottom ten opponents in February, 13th FCUM and 16th place Nuneaton will be tough for them, but 20th Telford and 22th North Ferriby, there could be two home wins for them this month.
10/02 North Ferriby (H)
13/02 Curzon (H)
24/02 FCUM (H)
27/02 Nuneaton (H)

Onto this weekend

Thanks for the update after last nights results. Our goal difference is only -5, so that could well count as an extra point come the end of the season.

I was surprised at that figure I would have thought given our terrible run it would have been much worse.

My only reservation about your predictions is that Gainsborough have a terrible away record and 4/5 of their games against the bottom 10 are away!

Despite shipping lots of goals we’ve only generally been beaten by one goal. We’ve not really been hammered by 2 or 3 very often.

The form table really tells a story about who is in real trouble. I am wondering if we can climb to a top 10 season this season...

I am not convinced that when we actually get to the final league table of the season we will look that out of touch with the playoffs (3 or 4 points maybe).

Agreed Darlo_Pete, the goal difference is like having an extra point in the table.

Gainsborough had done well for a couple of games, I was not expecting a 5-0 thrashing by Bradford. The -22 goal difference is a worry for them. A long way to go still

I hope you're right but don't share your level of optimism. Confidence and form are a fragile thing and the way this season has played out up to now there's a possibility more bad luck could fall on us. Styche getting nobbled for example.

I'm confident we'll avoid the drop, but it could be tense.

I am convinced though that you are deluded and clutching at straws.

We will be well out of touch of the play offs come April and we'll be much closer to the bottom seven than the top seven.

Avoiding relegation is the be all and end all of this season.
