Re: Darlington v North Ferriby
What about the game against Boston in 89/90? Didn't we score 4 goals in about 20 minutes? In fact, didn't David Cork score 4 in the first half?

Did a ITV sports digital quiz show which resulted in me doing a specialist subject (Darlos conference season), answer as many questions in 60 seconds......only got 1 wrong.

Feel a bit silly now wanting the game off. Thankfully the 40mph winds were nowhere to be seen.
"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883

The other game involved Hartlepool - I think they won to make the playoffs at Stockport's expense or something. From memory we were almost cheering Stockport on because it meant Hartlepool might miss out.Vodka_Vic wrote:Yes. I was there. But they needed someone else to lose to get into the play-offs and the other team didn't lose so it was a surreal atmosphere at the final whistle. They were gutted after a 5-0 win. I think the other team scored in injury time to foil Stockport.Spyman wrote:Didn't we concede 5 before half time against Stockport at the arena?biccynana wrote:Ok fact fans, apart from Whitby away have we ever scored five by half time before today?

I don't think I returned to the stand to watch the second half. Just stayed at the bar in the concourse for the second half!

We will be playing at the arena again next season - fact.
Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

Think the attendance was 1087 or 1097
Re: Darlington v North Ferriby
Wonder if Whitey might be in a spot of bother for virtually throwing their player straight through the dug out. Got sent to the stand.

More details please quakerste. What was that all about?quakerste wrote:Wonder if Whitey might be in a spot of bother for virtually throwing their player straight through the dug out. Got sent to the stand.
Re: Darlington v North Ferriby
Are we really just two points away from the play-offs or am I looking at the wrong table.

It ended 5-0, but thought we scored in both halves. Was on TTTV Shoot, so may be existing somewhere in video land.The_Ozzman_Cometh wrote:Didn't we score 5 against Cheltenham before halftime when we played them in the Conference 89/90 season

Certainly chose his moment, while the team were thrashing and relegating some no hopers.quakerste wrote:Wonder if Whitey might be in a spot of bother for virtually throwing their player straight through the dug out. Got sent to the stand.
Re: Darlington v North Ferriby
Their player ran into Whitey when trying to retrieve the ball so Whitey shoved him from behind. The lad virtually went straight through the back of the dug out.

Didn't we hit 5 before half time when we played Luton at the arena during the Penney era
Re: Darlington v North Ferriby
Great win today and a nice confidence booster despite it being against a poor side
I’m not even dreaming of the play-offs, for about three months I’ve worried about staying up. Now that’s more or less guaranteed, let’s just enjoy the end to the season and use it to plan for next season
A lot of the teams at the top will obviously be pushing or the play offs. It’s highly unlikely we will make them so why not use these few games to try new things and see what we can work on ahead of next season?

Cheers ste. Whitey can pay to have any damage made good - we've already stumped up for those dugoutsquakerste wrote:Their player ran into Whitey when trying to retrieve the ball so Whitey shoved him from behind. The lad virtually went straight through the back of the dug out.
He should be ok re disciplinary shouldn't he? Isn't there a rule about if an offence is seen by the ref and acted on then there can't be retrospective action? Over to the board's resident refs.

Good to see Collins warming up before the game, looked to be moving pretty good.

You are looking at the right table you just forgot to notice we have played erm......just 7 games more than Spenney! I am just happy we are staying up (I think)LoidLucan wrote:Are we really just two points away from the play-offs or am I looking at the wrong table.

7pts off York is what I'm looking at...one game in hand, but a couple of slip ups and we have confidence and momentum...let's do this! Re: Darlington v North Ferriby
Didn't look much wrong with Wheatley's attitude or application today. He had an excellent game and I wish we could keep him.

Re: Darlington v North Ferriby
I think its the fact he hasn't signed a contract Wright questioned his attitude. How many contracts have been signed this week, only Wheatley I reckon has turned one down. I think Wright knows he has a decent squad here and they are good enough to make a promotion push next season. I very much doubt Wheatley will stay, he will be assessing his options at the end of the season.LoidLucan wrote:Didn't look much wrong with Wheatley's attitude or application today. Replacing Wheatley will be difficult but we have Portas to come back and hopefully Wright will keep picking up gems.

Pears had a few excellent saves early on before we got going & another clean sheet which reflects a solid performance at the back. In the second half, their keeper made a string of saves which prevented double digits. TW also had chance to sub the entire forward line & give Glover, Caton & Mills a good run out whilst saving Thommo, Styche and Syers for next game. Good decision, given the appalling conditions where it was easy to slip and hence high risk of injury. Great result which vastly improved our goal difference and pushed us well up away from the relegation scrap.

Their keeper couldn't catch a cold, let alone a ball in the first half. I can only assume they changed keeper at halftime, because their keeper almost kept us out single handedly in the second half.
Re: Darlington v North Ferriby
Wheatley shows that there are some gems being released from the big north-east clubs and we can be seen as a decent club to come to in trying to revive your career.

Re: Darlington v North Ferriby
In terms of the match, thought we did really well against the wind in the first half.
I've never seen such a negative start from a side at the first whistle, they just literally just parked the bus from the first whistle. They just invited pressure as they had nothing up front.
The funniest thing in the second half was their keeper, he actually played well in the second half, he kept asking the linesman and ref how long was left for the last 30 mins - must have been freezing his ass off.

Apparently a scout was at the game from Fulham. They must have been impressed with Heaton as he put in another terrific display, all be it against inferior opposition.

Wright mentioned in his programmes notes that more contract signings will occur in the next couple of weeks.
