Pears
Re: Pears
The guy has been an absolute revelation for us. Such an improvement on the lad from Sunderland (who was by no means awful, but Pears is a cut above).
Wonder if we can beg him back for next season? Although he could end up going to a higher level. That said, presumably he trains with Boro during the week, so maybe they like that arrangement.

Re: Pears
I'll be shocked (but delighted) if we can get him back here next season. The only reasons why Boro may are that, like you say, they would still oversee most of his training (presumably), and it also gives Pears the opportunity to develop the (relatively) weaker parts of his game in a league which he is overall clearly very comfortable in. But I feel I'm clutching at straws here
Re: Pears
Wouldn't have thought we will get Pears back next season I would expect him to go to a league 1 or 2 team.
My money is on us bringing in Talbot who was expecting to be released by Sunderland at the end of the season.

Re: Pears
Looking at the highlights he seemed to have a game of two halves. First half couldn't stop anything and second was almost unbeatable. I know that's not much to go on and presumably he had a good evening last night
Re: Pears
Fantastic for the Young lad to be called up. Especially with the recent record of English Youth International Football, he certainly has a huge future in the game. Would love to have him next season, but in reality I think he will be in the Football League.
It is definitely a key position which needs to be prioritised over summer. I wouldn't mind giving Talbot from Sunderland another go should his contract come to an end. Looked like there was a decent young keeper there and again would add to the squad allowing us to give a young player an opportunity to shine and earn himself a deal back in full-time football. Also might be worth looking at a loan deal Hanford at Gateshead, been pushed out of the team by Montgomery who has been playing well, perhaps we could be a way to keep giving him match practice while he could still train FT with Gateshead.

Re: Pears
Great for the lad and well-deserved as he has been a key factor in our recent run of clean sheets. Still lots to learn and he will be very difficult to replace when his loan comes to an end. Hopefully, other young keepers will recognise us as a club who can help them progress and thus want to come to Blackwell Meadows.
In the meantime, hope Pears' England career takes off and he impresses the governors!

Re: Pears
Pears been a MASSIVE part of our recent success - I think next season he will be loaned out to a League One or League Two club as part of his development. Agreed that Talbot should be given another chance.
Not sure why some people are raving about the North Ferriby Keeper, in the first half he wasn't great, in the second half I think our finishing was poor and he made some decent saves but nothing outstanding.

Re: Pears
As I said on another thread, the contrast between halves was immense, it was like they changed keepers at half-time.dfcdfcdfc wrote:Looking at the highlights he seemed to have a game of two halves. England beat Poland 1-0 last night.
Pears didn't get on the pitch but great experience and recognition for him.

Re: Pears
From what TW said last night, it's not out of the question. He does expect to have either Pears or Talbot here for next season.

I'd be very happy with either keeper next year.

Re: Pears
Don't think I can remember seeing such a young, competent and assured keeper as this lad.Very big future and brilliant that Craig and Boro have the confidence in us as a club to loan us their emerging talent to gain more experience.Win,win for both clubs.

Pickford was equally as impressive in his short spell with us.QUAKERMAN2 wrote:Don't think I can remember seeing such a young, competent and assured keeper as this lad.Very big future and brilliant that Craig and Boro have the confidence in us as a club to loan us their emerging talent to gain more experience.Win,win for both clubs.

Re: Pears
I agree wholeheartedly with the above, Darlington over the years have had some top class/brilliant keepers, none more so than an 18 year old from Hebburn who after 12 games playing for Darlo went on to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world where he won 2 league titles and gained 3 England caps.

Re: Pears
Dean Gerken was brilliant in his time with us, but for some reason remains largely forgotten.

Did not realise that Neil, honestly thought he was retired well before you came to us.Wainy247 wrote:Mmmm, so that would be Ray Wood? Played for Bradford City in my first ever Darlo game and conceded three!

Re: Pears
Or the great John Burridge. We've had a thread like this before....we have had some great keepers. I remember travelling to Carlisle with Hicker who was a regular on here and Andy Collett had left tickets for us as Hicker sponsored him. Top blokes!
