Season 2018/19 prologue

It seems people quite like having all the new season info about transfers, friendlies etc in one place, so could this thread be stickied please.

I think there's plenty to look forward to in the new campaign, even for an interminable doom-monger like myself. Last season was possibly the most important we've had, in terms of the club strategy - ditching the "Spend to win at all costs" mentality of MG and opting for a more sustainable strategy. I'm looking forward to seeing how we develop on and off-the-pitch.

Fixtures were released last year on 5th July, with the season start date being 5th August. So perhaps this year it will be 4th July with the season start date being 4th August.

Where was this published? Not seen or heard of this as yet, I do know that Boro U23's are meant to be playing Hartlepool though. I hope this isn't one of the big friendlies that has been mentioned!

Pity I was planning to go that game. No doubt we'll arrange some replacement fixture.

I was going to my daughter, will take her to a couple of Pre-Season games, probably Sunderland and the Legends Game

Come on keep up we've had another one leave.

Going to have to get teamsheets at the beginning of the season until I familiarize myself with the players.

Additional friendly :-

Darlo RA v Darlington XI
Sat 28th July, 1pm

Not sure what side we’ll be putting out the day before the legends game

The all ticket Sunderland game clashes with a potential England WC semi-final doesn't it? Bad planning if thats the case.

Yep, because the club knew when they arranged this game before the tournament that England would end up on that side of the draw. And that they'd definitely get to the semi-finals.

Genuinely, our club can't win with our supporters. Some of our fans are only happy when they've got something to twist on about. If it's not Thommo or Styche, or the fact you can't get into the bar, or they have rugby on in the bar, then it's some other minor issue. Now it's because our board can't see into the future.

You can't blame the club for that, there are bound to be clashes.

Can't blame either club, but I wonder if there is any flexibility in the scheduling.

I saw Billingham v Hartlepool on Saturday has moved forwards to avoid a potential clash with an England QF. Obviously Sunderland are a much bigger operation, and also DFC v Sunderland is midweek, so it may not be feasible to move the game, and also I'm highly sceptical of our chances of reaching the SF, but if England do make the semi (if if if) DFC will lose out on loads of revenue from the friendly. I hope we at least ask the question about scheduling, England results dependent.

Of course, after being very optimistic last week, I'm fully expecting Colombia to win tonight so this will be a moot point

Good to see that Sunderland have agreed to move the game forward a day to the Tuesday and Sunderland have confirmed that they will be bringing their first team including all there new signings.
