I can't say I really know who he is, but reading his pedigree, he looks to be an excellent signing, who has played much higher up the pyramid

I suspect Burn and the club expect this to be a short-term stay with us as we help him get back into full-time professional football and given his pedigree I expect it to happen.

The article doesn't (unless I missed it) say how long we've signed him for but I'd hope for a couple of years so we get a fee when it happens but I'm sure there's a promise he can talk to any pro club who wants to sign him.

Used to play for Allstars when he was younger, was a centre midfielder back then mind. I think he was quite highly rated by Craig Liddle (sure he moved with him from Sunderland -> Middlesbrough but might be mistaken).

Seems like a win win, if he plays well for us and the team do well he might get a move back into professional football - no doubt wanting to follow in Heatons footsteps.

Can't imagine it's longer than a year, but you never know. Perhaps he might've signed on the understanding we'll let him go if a bid from a higher league, professional side comes in.

Good for both. Getting excited for next season now.

Pretty happy with that - decent pedigree, did OK at York last season apparently, young. Good competition for the squad

Now for that keeper and midfielder Wright wanted before pre season starts tomorrow..

I think York defensively were OK last season, its just they couldn't score near the end - it would be interesting on his thoughts on his time at York, Im sure that will come out further down the line.

Another one that looks a decent enough signing, young with ambition, experience at higher level (limited) and this level but a desire to move back up.

If we can get him to perform at a similar level to what Heaton achieved then great, looking at the York reviews he done ok/average in a very poor team at a time when they couldn't score.

Hopefully he does well for us and himself and moves back into the professional game.

I saw a lot of Jonny Burn last season as my lad is a York fan so went to a few games. To me he looked comfortable on the ball and good tackler - prone to being outmuscled a bit in the air I felt. Brought in by MG and played the majority of games up until the last 3-4 of the season.

Good interview with him on the official site. Great that he was a fan when he was young, so he knows our history and were we hope to get back too.

Craig Stod reports that a deal with a goalkeeper has been reached and we'll announce it tomorrow. Only thing we haven't done is sign a direct replacement for Turnbull. Could be TW waits to get some trialists. That's how we signed Joe Wheatley. Or will he fill Turnbull's void with what we already have?

Could be Hughes who fills in Adam,we seem to have great attacking options and this lad appears to be a perfect replacement.Any idea who the keeper will be.?

Callum Roberts from Preston I reckon.
Liam Hughes is supposed to be an attacking midfielder. This is what I don't know enough about football to comment on. Could you put any midfielder in to cover Turnbull's role, which by all accounts was a holding midfielder, or is that really a specialist position which would need a like for like replacement?

Hughes can play anywhere from CB to CF.

At 6ft 4 he isn't going to be out muscled by any one.

I've been told he is more than capable of playing a holding midfield role.

Thank God we've signed someone from Darlo. The Midlands minibus must be close to capacity.

Galbraith was "supposed" to have been born a left-back.

Ainge spent most of his career as a central defender before banging in 20+ goals a season as a striker.

If a player is good enough they can adapt and learn a different position. After all, it's just kicking a ball from a different bit of the park.

Wonder if we can play JB at the pre-season friendly? seems to have gone quiet on that!
Hope when we do meet up with MG's York City that JB will have a point to prove.

I think it was said on another thread some time back that the friendly v York was on the proviso that York were promoted so that we would be in different divisions. So on that assumption, there won't be one this season.

Well done TW for securing a replacement for Heaton so quickly after he departed (and also another on a free transfer).

Seems like a good enough signing, and I fully believe a different environment to the one he had at York will do him a world of good.

Now time for that Goalkeeper, one due to sign shortly.

To be honest I would be disappointed if we let Turnbull go without securing a replacement. Whether that be a direct replacement, or dropping Hughes back and signing another to compete. It's a long season and Glover has only just turned 17. If the budget permits (and it should after the departures) then it should be an area that we look to strengthen in following securing a goalkeeper.

If I was TW I wouldn't commit the full available playing budget at this stage of preseason. I expect there will be a host of talented youngsters that were released by the big clubs at the end of last season and they will be attending trials preseason with L1/L2 clubs hoping to get fixed up. Not all of these talented youngsters will manage it and therefore who knows what little might suddenly become available for TW to consider (as did Wheatley towards the end of preseason).

Thanks, i must have missed that. In effect then, there is no compensation from York or MG for the whole breach of trust & contract- should have been expecting that! Just as well we were not budgetting for that income - but then again, sticking to budgets was never MG's strongpoint ;)

Personally, i had no intention of going down to York for that 'friendly' so will probably invest that money in a few 50/50 tickets instead, happy that all the cash will go into our club instead!
