Collett retired 14 years ago because of injury. If you're happy seeing him as part of the playing squad, you want your head testing.

Jim Provett was the goalkeeping coach you were thinking of. He was in his early 30s and still playing semi-professionally I believe. It didn't work.

No, it was Mark Bell I was thinking of. Seemed to keep the bench warm but contributed little on the pitch. Your own brain was not tuned in there. Nice to be reminded of Jim P though.

Mark Bell contributed very little on the pitch? Maybe because his role was to be a coach not a player. And we already had a first choice keeper.

Do you just type the first thing that comes into your head? Given you want a 44-year-old retiree to be our second keeper, I think we already know the answer to that one.

Bell contributed a lot on the pitch when he was 1st choice in the Northern League and Evostik 1N.

We did have Provett as a coach/bench warmer for a while.

Bell has also been playing first team football as recently as the season before he came back as player/coach - a bit different to 14 years out of the game!

Colletts shoulder cant stand up to diving around anymore.
I asked him to take part in a fundraising game once and he said that if he did turn up he would have to play outfield for that very reason.

Is Bancroft still there?

Now that we have a number 1 keeper I suspected Collett will try and work with Bancroft or other young keepers son we can try and unearth a gem. We have always got the loan system in case our No.1 gets injured.

Bancroft isn't contracted but the club did say he'll be invited for pre-season.
