Curzon Ashton - Sat 4th Aug

So pre-season done and it all starts on Saturday.

Be interesting to see who starts on Saturday with Burn, Trotman, Saunders & Ainge not playing today, Syers and Collins injured.

Unless Trotman is back then looks like Thompson could be filling the RB slot and the formation options seem to be 4-3-3 or 4-4-2.

Pitch looks like it needs a cut, sure that will be sorted. I guess a decision on Elliot as well before the weekend would be good.

Looking forward to it now, been a while since we opened the season at home.

RB is a concern, we’ve gone from 4 or 5 players who can cover the position to only really having Trotman who hasn’t exactly proved he can stay fit for any length of time. Even though we seem to be well covered on the wings I think it would be a waste to drop Thommo into RB

I don’t think many if any of the players out today are expected to be unavailable for next weekend.

I know it's been previously mentioned on here a lot, but what is happening re Caton?

He is the invisible man!

Has he got some kind of verbal agreement with T.W. to move on, or will he out of the blue just rock up next Saturday?

On the transfer list and Wright has made it clear he is not part of his plans.

I guess he needs to decide on a season of current money and no football or leave take a pay cut but be at a club where he will get to play. It's a bit harsh but that's football really.

Hmm, so does he have to do anything to justify his wage packet super Les?

I guess that would depend on the manager, he was at training the other week.

I'd guess he's been given free range to find himself a club and we'd probably release him for nothing at that point to save the wage.

But if I was him I certainly wouldn't move without a club lined up.

No idea, but I guess be available for training and games.

Who blinks first really, does he leave to get games or does he hang around and wait for a pay off.

Thompson has just started his annual holiday, I don’t know but would expect him to be off on his jollies soon , just saying.

I heard that Trotman is away and was unavailable for this match. I think it also looks likely Elliot will be signing barring any snags.

Tom Elliott can fill in at right-back too.

Seen Tom Elliott twice now at Northallerton and the legends game and he looks like he'd be a great addition to the squad.

I'm sure he will be off to Ibiza soon which could be a problem

Thompson always goes away around this time every year. We’ll have to do without for a few games.

Hope we get off to a good start with some positive & attractive football as can imagine some fickle fans will come down to watch out of curiosity. Decent weather and a win may be enough to tempt more fans down to BM.

Decent test for the first day of the season. Curzo are always a decent footballing side. Not huge changes in their squad so they should be familiar with each other and the system that they play.

I'd be tempted to go for 4-4-2 simple formation that all in the squad know how to play. I'd set us up as:

--------------------------- Maddison ---------------------------

Trotman ----- Burn ------ Galbraith ----- O'Hanlon

Thompson/ - Hughes --- Wheatley --- Henshall
Nicholson

--------------------- Styche ----- Ainge -----------------------

Subs: Bancroft, Vaulks, Glover, Saunders, Thompson/Nicholson

(Presuming Syers and Collins aren't fit for the start of the season).

Get the wingers and full backs wide. Spread them and use Ainge in the box to win the headers with Styche following up on any knock downs. Plenty of goal threat in that team. Just got to make sure we're solid at the back when we lose the ball. Important that one of Hughes or Wheatley hold when the other pushes forward to make sure we're not too open.

Hopefully the weather is good and we can get 1500 or 1600 down to watch us get our first win of the season.

Agree with your selection but any particular reason Caton not picked?

Weather looks good for Saturday, so hopefully we'll get in a decent crowd of at least 1500. Agree with JE's side and formation.

I hope the weather is not too hot as I'm coming up on the choo choo and if the rails are to hot it may get cancelled.. It might put a few off standing in the heat and getting burntImage

Based on Tommy's team news in the echo just a single change. Burn out injured so Collins comes in, Syers is apparently fit and could offer us a good option from the bench:

--------------------------- Maddison ---------------------------

Trotman ----- Collins ---- Galbraith ----- O'Hanlon

Nicholson --- Hughes --- Wheatley --- Henshall

--------------------- Styche ----- Ainge -----------------------

Subs: Bancroft, Vaulks, Glover, Saunders, Syers.

Sounds like Elliott is lining up alongside Hughes so that either means no Wheatley or 4-3-3

I will be surprised and delighted if Collins is available, especially after the way he came off at Northallerton, as I said before it looked really bad with him having tears in his eyes as he left the field. We will have to wait and see what happens.
