Well here we go first game of the season, really looking forward to it, with so many players leaving and arriving its been a very busy preseason.
The squad is looking good,

Jonny Maddison
Luke Trotman
Ben O'Hanlon
Terry Galbraith
Dom Collins
Jack Vaulks
Jonny Burn
Joe Wheatley
Mitchell Glover
Liam Hughes
David Syers
Tom Elliot
Stephen Thompson
Jordan Nicholson
Alex Henshall
Simon Ainge
Reece Styche
Harvey Saunders
I do think we have always played our best football in a 4 4 2 formation so I hope that's the plan.

My pick for Saturday would be;
Maddison,
Trotman Collins Galbraith O'Hanlon,
Nicholson Hughes Weatley Henshall/Elliot
Ainge Styche.

Thompsons on holiday and Burn is still injured, can't make my mind up between Henshall Nicholson and Elliot, they all look good players, and there's Syers of course, will be interesting to see the starting 11.

GOAL: 1-1. Curzon level after their first corner of the game on 25 minutes, Maddison fumbled his catch and the ball dropped over the line, not sure if he was pushed.

RED CARD: Darlington's Ben O’Hanlon sent off for deliberate handball after using a hand in the penalty area. But Maddison saves Hughes’ penalty, still 2-1 to Curzon.

87’ To, Elliott hits the bar again. Was meant to be a cross, goalkeeper misjudged it and the ball bounced off the frame of the goal. Ten-man Darlington giving it a go. 1-

Just got back what a disappointment that was , still can't figure out what the formation was, we seemed to have no width at all, praise for Josh Wheatley who was doing at least 3 players jobs.

id just like to by pass the game for a minute to point out the arrogance of the rugby club..i asked why wasn't there any disinfectant cubes in the toilets as they stunk, we cant afford to put them in was the reply as they zipped up , disgrace i replied, they just laughed , a letter is heading straight to the echo...anyway to the game , sorry first game and all that but Hughes (4)...please tell me hes really a rugby player and he got the wrong pitch..hes the worst player iv ever seen apart from 10 others on the pitch today , we were shyte at best , there number 2 controlled the first half and wright just let it go , we just dont have a midfield , and i thought we got away from hoof ball , but thats all they did, where was the on the deck football ?

I'll keep this brief... absolutely abysmal!!

No midfield, their winger in acres of space for most of the game. Cant defend crosses, no intensity...

The keeper looks a find though. Well done JM!!

TW - that was unacceptable.

Hopefully that bears no relationship to the way TW intends for us to play because if it does we are in for a season of struggle. We lacked leaders, organisers and a coherent plan. The midfield looks considerably weaker than during last season's run-in and at times we were pulled all over the place at the back with very little cover. In fact it looked very similar to the Motherwell game. We struggled to get going against a side cobbled together on a shoestring who I think will be down near the bottom. Early days but I wasn't filled with optimism. Struggling to pick out the positives although Trotman was excellent.

im struggling to pick faults with that, apart from The midfield looks considerably weaker, there wasnt one, anyway over to the experts on the forum who will no doubt find a chink in the armor that we will in fact be a better team after today's performance and go on to win the league ;)

Our midfield is supposedly our strength this season.

Missed Turnbull possibly?

The 4-3-3 was going well until they exploited our lack of width. But Curzon kept patient and kept the ball, two things we couldn’t seem to do.

Ultimately a disappointing, and flat performance, against a weaker side.

First 25 minutes was brilliant to watch. Curzon never had a sniff... We just had no idea how to react once they had scored.

Not too disheartened though. Last year we beat Salford in the season opener and went on to have a shite first half of the season.

Give the lads time... I'm sure it'll click soon.

That was appalling. Seriously bad. Playing narrow with two target men - how’s that meant to work?

Fair enough play Styche and Ainge together in a 4-4-2 with pacey wingers, but if you’re going 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 then just play one of them (i.e. Styche).

Hughes isn’t up to it, bad signing. Overweight, slow and can’t tackle, which surprising given his size. Wheatley is ideal for the DM role, full of running and energy. Please don’t persist with Hughes.

Dave Syers is a goal threat, so he’s got to start.

Most of the new signings look like bench-fillers and the squad is too small. We need at least two more.

Get it sorted Tommy.

What stuck out for me was the lack of urgency as the game went on, it looked like it was darlington winning and seeing the game out, instead of losing.
If that was the best from our players I'm afraid we are in for a torrid season. Hopefully this will send a message to the manager, he could have made changes earlier as when he did we looked a little better. I am really disappointed at todays performance.
MUST DO BETTER HAS TO BE THE MESSAGE. RANT OVER.

Apparently there was supposed to be some kind of cunning diamond formation going on.... except it was missing a few carats.
