FC United V Darlington match thread
Re: FC United V Darlington match thread
That is an appalling interview from Tommy in my opinion. Just a few snippets below:
“If the fans get on the players’ backs then this team will crumble because it’s that kind of group, they’re young lads and they need that 12th man behind them.”
Sounds like a good mentally strong side, well prepared for the rigors of a tough league. I'm all for asking the fans to say on side but is the down side to that really if you don't cheer them they'll fall to bits so you might as well? Do the players themselves really believe that? I doubt it.
'while Joe Wheatley, who has a hernia problem, will start if he feels able to following Thursday’s training session.'
Why are we letting a promising young player do this? Send him for an op, he could be fixed up and back to fitness in 4 weeks. In reality he could have missed Stockport and FCUM and been back for the Boston game. 4 weeks, 2 games missed. Now we're touch and go with team selection as to whether Wheatley can or can't make it onto the pitch for every single game that he carries this injury.
He needs a good result tomorrow. FCUM have just posted on twitter they have 3 out suspended and 5 out injured for tomorrow game.

Off to Manchester soon, but I see it's forecasting torrential rain for most of the day in that area. Is the game under any weather threat?

Knowing our luck, the game will get called off 30mns before the start so fans lose out on travelling expenses & chance to play a decimated FCUM teamDarlo_Pete wrote:Off to Manchester soon, but I see it's forecasting torrential rain for most of the day in that area. It costs to send a player for an operation. All those who think we are really in a position to spend money on changing the manager should really have a wake up call on this, if we can’t afford to send our best midfielder for an op shows that money is tight.JE93 wrote:That is an appalling interview from Tommy in my opinion. Hopefully off field activities in the pipeline will give a good financial boost to the club then things like this won’t be such an issue.

Still waiting on your explanation about why it's unusual to say captaincy isn't massively important.jjljks wrote:Knowing our luck, the game will get called off 30mns before the start so fans lose out on travelling expenses & chance to play a decimated FCUM teamDarlo_Pete wrote:Off to Manchester soon, but I see it's forecasting torrential rain for most of the day in that area. This game worries me!
We should no doubt win it BUT the scope for things to go wrong is big.

Re: FC United V Darlington match thread
As we have already seen this season against Brackley and Telford it is often easier to play with freedom when expectations are lower. In the position we have today there may be more of a fear of losing that may inhibit that freedom to play. In order to get past this the team badly needs some Leamington style fortune. But FC are in a similar position and clearly will hope that their permission to play well due to the hopelessness of their situation over-trumps ours.theoriginalfatcat wrote:This game worries me!

Re: FC United V Darlington match thread
It sounds like we made hard work of that and should have scored several more.
Styche back next week creates a dilemma, do we bench him and continue to play Ainge and Saunders? Do we replace Ainge with Styche? Or do we do the unthinkable and drop Saunders after he's scored twice?
From how it sounded, it sounded like as the game wore on Ainge was winning more flick ons - I'd be tempted to stick with today's front two.

That was absolute bloody carnage. Great fun, but not very impressive.

3 points is 3 points yes there were probably awful but we won and that's the main thing.... I just hope we can build on that and not do our usual and lose the next game...

Can’t play that formation against Boston. We were overrun quite a few times early on. In the end it should have been 3 or 4 to us but we wasted a few chances to put it to bed.

Re: FC United V Darlington match thread
Well, there's 3 points chalked off my required 10 from 5.
7 from 4 now required, and that's from Boston H, Leamington A, BPA A, Guisely H
2 half decent sides, 2 no great shakes sides.
If we are good enough to push into the top half then we should have the ability to get 7 from 4.

Re: FC United V Darlington match thread
In summary: first goal was a massive wind assist.
Second was all down to Harvey Saunders hard work.
First red was never a red.
Second red probably right. If not then Johnny maddison is a very lucky boy - bit like karius in the champions league, but it went in our favour.
Their goal was down to awful defending from a corner (shock)
The management of the game to see out the result was non existent. We could have scored more, but with a minute to go we had centre halves galumphing forward taking pot shots from 30 yards.
Good to win, but far from convincing.

Re: FC United V Darlington match thread
Wasn't there but after a poor start to the season I just don't think we have the confidence in ourselves to shut out the other side in the last 10 minutes. Not yet anyway. We probably feel more comfortable on the attack at the moment.
Re: FC United V Darlington match thread
Should have been wrapped up much earlier if we had taken the half chances, still 3pts away from home and with other results going our way, this may give the squad a boost.

Re: FC United V Darlington match thread
What was Syers and Nicholson doing on the bench? We were so over run in midfield early on and against a better team we will get hammered with todays starting formation and selection.
Ainge didnt contribute much from what I could see, not sure if it was tactics but got to be Styche and / or Saunders next game based on today.
Think FCUM are going down, a lot of injuries I believe but truly awful. The whole set up looks worn out.
This might seem really petty but who gave Hughes a shirt that is clearly two sizes too small for him? Smacks of a lack of attention to detail. He looked weighty and it cant be comfortable to play in.I know there are bigger sizes that even fat b@stards like me can get in so it cant be availability!

I think Saunders has probably shown today that last time wasn't a fluke and now deserves a few games to prove himself.
Harsh if he's dropped now in my opinion.
