Old Darlo songs
Old Darlo songs
Anyone remember the words to "I vow to thee my Darlington" sung at Feethams?
Always enjoyed singing "Running Bear" in the Tin Shed.
Was just thinking that we need a club anthem, whether that's an adapted song or an adopted song.

Re: Old Darlo songs
I think the first bit of it was "I vow to thee my Darlington, I vow to hate Poolie, and I shall follow darlington whereever I may be" forgotten the rest like as it was about ten years ago!
I agree with needing a club anthem as I reckon Take me home Neasham Rd is a bit rubbish

It's a bit worrying that a team from the former Cleveland has "two little boys" as it's adopted song.alleztfc wrote:Too many to choose from.

My particular favourite was 'Silent Night', especially when PC Wright was in attendance. Other favourites were 'Sausages in the Pan' and 'Jelly on the Plate'.
Re: Old Darlo songs
And "jigger, jigger, jigger, shoot that n*****", or are we all sweeping that under the carpet and pretending it never happened?

Usually followed by "Darlo are white! Darlo are white! Who-oa who-oa, Darlo are white!"Quakerz wrote:And "jigger, jigger, jigger, shoot that n*****", or are we all sweeping that under the carpet and pretending it never happened?
We could have been referring to the all white strip of the time, but as it usually followed racist abuse, then probably not.

I'd be quite flattered to be called "white honkey" by my colonial cousin - the fascist labour controlled nanny state is completely mad.

A mate of mine always used to say we sung tiptoe through the tinshed with a flick knife and a sawn-off shotgun but I have never heard this one sung. Anyone remember this one ?

"Come and have a go if you think yer hard enough "..
Re: Old Darlo songs
Not really, as I wasn't the despicable cuntz singing the song. Darlo really is full of boneheads is it not, and how evident was it in the 80's?ham wrote:Pete was it not Benny on a plate the little fat guy he used love that song.Quakerz thats got to be a yellow card
Re: Old Darlo songs

TalcI remember we sang "Tiptoe through the Tinshed with your boots on and a sawn off shotgun. When we played Poorlie we taunted them with "Tiptoe through the Rink End with your sandshoes and a bunch of flowers"
In similar vein was "Darlo boys, Darlo boys laced up boots and corduroys. Poorlie boys, Poorlie boys baseball boots and Tonka toys".
One of the earliest songs I can remember is to the tune of Wandering Star
" I was born in Darlington
I was born in Darlington
I got me boots from Woolies
I wear me braces slack
And if I see a Poorlie fan
I'll break his f*ckin back
I was born in Darlington
In the Tin Shed Darlington"

I was at an away game with a friend of mine who supported Orient, and some old boy kept shouting "Quaker Aggro"Sussex07 wrote:Did you join in with" Ello ello Darlo aggro Darlo aggro ello" pete ?Darlo_Pete wrote:My particular favourite was 'Silent Night', especially when PC Wright was in attendance. I have often wondered just how much "Aggro" has ever gone on at meetings of the "Society of friends".

In the mid 1960's the song was "I'm Henry the VIII, I am..."

Re: Old Darlo songs
Our ground is a museum when people come to see us. We're all together weird the Darlo family la la la. By the sound of the river running bear indiam brave. On the other side of the water was his lovely indian maid. Little white dove was a her name, such a wonder sight to see. But their love could never be! Running bear loved little white dove with a love big as the sky big as the sky. Suggest you down load the song to remenber the full verses. Was a quality anthem. Used to rock Feethams. Maybe the team should enter the pitch to it.
Re: Old Darlo songs
Not sure it rocked Feethams, but always resulted in kids scattering when the Aycliffe massive were out in force. Think it was Baggy, Ash or Baz who came up with the idea and was a good base for the old Aycliffe/Northallerton banter. Christ, I miss them days.
I've reckon we should adapt Sloop John B, but leave the lyrics alone.
At each and every away game this season I've thought "this is the worst trip, I've ever been on". But I love it really
