Didn't we once sign Glen Robson from the NL when we were in League 2? Saw him make his debut at Hull City and he couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo.

There’s plenty (the majority) that fall into that category. We’re slightly lower in the pyramid these days and whilst all signings are gambles you think that surely we could bulk the bench out with some cheap lower league players who might not be on a contract

If it didn't work out and he couldn't score at this level at least someone would be able to write the headline Sweet FA!

Another one is Morpeth recent signing from Whitley Bay - Jack Foalle. Scored 23 this season most with Whitley Bay but has about a goal a game record at Morpeth also.

The best thing these days is that more NE clubs are further up the pyramid so these lads are getting their chances to try at a higher level.

Even if not ready for National League yet there is a good chance Morpeth will be in Evo Prem next season, so if the lad wants to opportunities will be around to progress.

I,m all for finding the next thommo in the NL but believe we need to inject some interest from Darlo kids into the crowd. We had 1300 at the weekend, not great; lets have a free darlo schools day where every primary and secondary school in Darlington and surrounding is given 25 free tickets.
Then these kids may come again with a parent or grandparent.

Spot on, Eddie. We need to get the next generation of fans into the club. 'New' juniors are likely to come with team mates or school friends then 'catch the bug'. Once they experience real football rather than the commercialised TV version of the game, they will be inspired. Mind, it would help if we could string a few home wins together

Now look what you've done, sent me off trawling the net to find Tom Portas' whereabouts! Looks like him, Fisher, Mitchell and a free scoring Amar are having fun at West Auckland albeit in front of a couple of hundred fans!

Aye, and on about £300 a week as well !! :wtf:

FYI it is already free for U11s accompanied by a responsible adult. So a parent could take their child of primary school age together with two of their friends for the price of an adult. The kids are even allowed in the stand free of charge so they are guaranteed a view.

Clutching at straws here, but they may have had one eye on their FA Cup game with Cambridge at the weekend.

And tired from their trip to the Mighty Darlo.

So we are agreeing with Tommy that they were better than Bradford PA?

They had 9 shots on target 15 off 12 corners to Ashton's 3 off 2 on and 5 corners so pretty similar to sat against us , but we kept a clean sheet that's the difference

Happens every single weekend. Spenny needed a last minute header to draw with us, now they're up in 3rd we're 13th.

Got to be patient, we're where we deserve to be right now, but it doesn't mean we'll stay here all season, as others have said we're within a couple of results of either the Playoffs or the Relegation zone and the likelihood is the league will be tight all year. I agree we have thrown away leads disappointingly against Leamington and BPA and we were lucky to get anything out of Ashton, Guiseley and Southport, but we did and that's how football goes.

What we can look to is that our form is improving. Our last 8 games have seen a large improvement from our first 8:

First 8
W: 1
D: 3
L: 4
GF: 12
GA: 18
Points: 6

Last 8
W: 3
D: 4
L: 1
GF: 10
GA: 6
Points 13

I don't think Tommy is the next Sir Alex but he has certainly steadied the ship from the start of the season and for that he deserves some credit. We are working within the budget constraints that we have. And more recently we are getting some more results from this. Lets see where we are in and around Christmas time before we right of a season to mid table mediocrity.

I ment they had the majority of the play and similar stats but yes they conceded but not on sat

JE93 I agree with much of this plus we've lost a top striker (at this level) and two supposedly good signings aren't available for whatever reason. I thought at Ashton we were down to an outstanding goal but fought back and could have won it.

Check out the video highlights. It may have been 0-0 but we were very lucky to take a point. We were not bad in first 30 mns but then Guiseley got into the game then their tails up. If it wasn't for the woodwork we could have lost 0-3.

Result not looking too shabby, if you are sat in the Cambridge dug-out.
