FA Trophy draw on Monday

Post by Darlogramps » Sun Nov 11, 2018 8:07 pm

Final chance at a decent cup run this season. Can't quite believe we haven't won a "proper" cup match (the Durham Challenge Cup/Doodson Cup nonsense do not count), since 2015.

Looking at the draw from last season, it was regionalised in the 3rd qualifying round. If the regionalisation is the same, we could get any of the NLN sides, or one of:

Basford (NPL)
Stamford (NPL East)
Stalybridge/Buxton (Both NPL)
AFC Mansfield/Pickering (Both NPL East)
Barwell (Southern Central)
Lancaster (NPL)
Newcastle Town (NPL West)/Workington (NPL)
Marske (NPL East)
Halesowen (Southern Central)
Stratford (Southern Central) /Mickleover (NPL)
Witton Albion (NPL)
Farsley Celtic (NPL)/Carlton Town (NPL East)
South Shields (NPL)
Yaxley (Southern Central Div 1)/Ramsbottom (NPL West)

Given our patchy home form this season, a trip to AFC Mansfield/Pickering would, on paper at least, be the preferred draw. Anyone for a trip to Marske?

Knowing our luck, we'll get Kidderminster or Chorley.

Was trying to find a list of who we night end up playing so thanks for posting that. What strikes me most is that there isn't really much in the way of local games/opportunities. I'd rather stay away from the northern teams tbh. Marske are an unknown quantity to me but we've already seen what South Shields are capable of before and I'd like to stay away from any of the teams in our league.

Looking at the the above, probably preferable that we get someone from the leagues below. I'd take a game against Yaxley, Ramsbottom or Stamford don't really care home or away.

I'd select a trip to Yaxley as I lived there many moons ago, and wouldn't mind seeing how the place looks now.

Doesn't it also mean we could get York, Spenny or Blyth or anyone else in the NLN? Or is it seeded?!

Can't wait to draw Kidderminster away, whilst Spennymoor or York draw someone like AFC Mansfield/Pickering.

The Southernmost clubs in NLN may end up in Southern group or vice versa.

Hereford were in the Southern Half of the FA Cup draw- they got Truro at home and then beat them after a replay.

Marske Utd home or away would be my choice. I saw them play Stockton in the Vase last season and they were a cut above. Credit to Stockton for beating them over two legs. I didn’t see the first as Darlo were playing North Ferriby at the North Pole.

Also looking forward to the Durham cup match next month (as well as league points of course)!

Marske at home would be good... any home game would be good.

Tbh, i'd take South Shields at home again. It'd give us a good crowd, and regardless of last years shambles, we *should* beat them. They're not blowing away the opposition like they were last year.

YCFC have got Kiddie away, but I can't find the full draw anywhere. The FA website is sh*t, incidentally.

I'd rather be away, the players seem to perform better away from Blackwell.
Could well have something to do with the fans backing them better away than they do at home, fewer moaning gits

Not the best draw, but also not the worst we could have got.

Hopefully we actually put a good performance in and we come away with the win.

Was the same for the FA Cup game if memory serves and the rugby club agreed to move their game to Saturday evening.

Pretty boring draw for us, but we've beaten them once already this season.

Going three seasons in a row without a cup win would be staggeringly poor.

Hereford drawn against FC United. Spen's suggestion is wrong. Again.

I said NLN clubs MAY end up in the South and its a fact that in the FA Cup 3rd QR Hereford were in the southern group and were drawn away at Truro.

I even highlighted the term MAY for you!

There was the situation a few years back the other way when St Neots of the Southern League were put in the FA trophy Northern Section and drew Darlington and beat them on 15 November 2014 by 3 goals to 1. You may remember that game. it p*ssed it down all day and Darlington played with 10 men for nearly the whole game after Liam Hatch was sent off in first 2 minutes!

Darlogramps you may care to explain why

SOUTHERN League Halesowen are in the Northern section and drawn against Spennymoor

It seems that indeed Southern sides can end up in the Northern sector or vice versa as I stated.

Lets hope we can get a decent crowd in... although i'm sceptical... I was hoping for some local interest and a decent away following. We'll get neither from Telford, and not a particularly easy game either, albeit one we really should be aiming to win.

Not a very exciting draw. No doubt they'll be up for revenge for the way we beat them so convincingly earlier on this season.
