Darlington V Brackley
Obviously there will have to be changes to the line up for this game, and we will have different opinions on what they should be, injuries to players always throw up opportunities for players to make there claim to be in the starting 11, and also for management to tweak the style of play.
Burn for Galbraith? Ainge into the back 4 ? Saunders leading the attack, give Kneeshaw a start up front, the only shoe in is probably O'Hanlon in for Muggleton.

I'd put Burn in, make him earn his wages.

Brackley will no doubt have one eye on Saturday when they host Leyton Orient in their defence of the FA Trophy.
it will be interesting to see what side Brackley put out for their next two games and where their priorities lie

Re: Darlington V Brackley
Hopefully they will have a really long, strength-sapping, traffic-snarled journey up to the North-east (and half of the first team can't get the time off work) . It wouldn't be the ideal preparation for a Trophy quarter-final game on Saturday getting back home at around 3 in the morning on Thursday. If I was the boss I would be looking to rest my main men for the defence of their Trophy

Good idea.Play one of the worst centre backs we’ve ever had to make a hard game harder.OnTheTerraces wrote:I'd put Burn in, make him earn his wages.

That was my inital thought as I typed my previous post. however, Brackley are in play off places in table and promotion to NL is possibly a bigger prize from Brackley than defending the FA Trophy.
Re: Darlington V Brackley
Honestly, we might as well give Burn another go at some point. I assume we probably have him for another year, and instead of moving Ainge, i'd rather give him a shot again from the start and see what he can do.
Anyway, personally, i'd play: (assuming fitness on these players behalves)
...............Madison
Trotman..Smith..Hughes..O'Hanlon
.....Palmer..Wheatley..Nicholson
Kneeshaw...................Saunders
...................Ainge
Lets have a go at them.
Subs: Hall, Burn, Kokolo, Elliott, Thommo

You wanna drop Thommo and Elliott? Okay thenH1987 wrote:Honestly, we might as well give Burn another go at some point. I assume we probably have him for another year, and instead of moving Ainge, i'd rather give him a shot again from the start and see what he can do.

This is the conundrum , is the team better with Wheatley in it than Elliott , the same with Thompson/Kneeshaw, and Palmer/Nicholson.AndyPark wrote:You wanna drop Thommo and Elliott? IMO Thompson should be on the right in front of Trotman apart from that take your pick.

It’s called being a realist.Even the management have said that they can’t get him motivated.Take your blinkers off now and again.HarrytheQuaker wrote:The lad hasn't been given a chance so let's slag him off as usual from certain Darlo fans(So called managers)Emdubya wrote:Good idea.Play one of the worst centre backs we’ve ever had to make a hard game harder.OnTheTerraces wrote:I'd put Burn in, make him earn his wages.

Re: Darlington V Brackley
Think we should stick with the 3-5-2. It is starting to come together and we are looking a lot more solid defensively. And its a formation that gets the best out of Hughes and Nicholson.
That in mind the question is who plays at the back. As I said on another thread the club said Vaulks was on a dual registration deal at Pickering. They don't have a game tonight or tomorrow so why not put him in. Let him stake his claim for next season. So I'd go for:
-------------------------- Maddison --------------------------
----------- Vaulks ---- Hughes ------ Smith -----------
Trotman ------------------------------------------- Kokolo
--------------- Elliott -------------- Wheatley -------------
------------------------ Nicholson----------------------------
------------------ Ainge ------ Thompson ---------------
Subs: Hall, Burn, Palmer, Saunders, Kneeshaw.
I'd like to see Kneeshaw given a bit more time on the pitch have a look at what he can do. So if there was a first sub lined up for 60/65 mins I'd like to see it be him come on for Thommo give Thommo a rest.
Hopefully like other have said Brackley come with one eye on their FA Trophy tie with Orient on Saturday. Tough game. But the mid week travel and the cup distraction maybe gives us a bit more of a chance.

Re: Darlington V Brackley
There could well be zero away fans for this one, we'll be lucky to get over 1000. I'd also play Vaulks in the centre of our defence, along with Hughes and Smith. At least we seem to have stopped shipping goals, we just need to score a few. As others have said TW will be with us next season and it would be deserved after our recent upturn in form.

Re: Darlington V Brackley
I wouldn't say Burn was one off the worst centre backs we've ever had. Underwhelming, yes. But in 40 odd years i've seen much worse. With Caton and Collins gone, someone has to pick up the mantle of fans target.
Re: Darlington V Brackley
Burn might be okay if he could get off the ground but he lacks the basic ability to jump and win a header which is pretty fundamental for a defender. No need to play him when we have cover. I’d leave Vaulks until next season when I’m sure he’ll come into the reckoning. Brackley are going to play more football than Southport so I think that’ll suit us. I’d be tempted to give Kneeshaw a start further forward than be played on Saturday.
Re: Darlington V Brackley
Glad to see Vaulks getting a mention & would prefer to see him in the squad. He gives us a bit more flexibility as Ainge could go back up front as a target. Also like to see Kokolo given another chance to show us what he can do.
As someone pointed out, we could do with some jams on the A1 just to put them in the wrong frame of mind for a match. So long as we don't get that excuse for a ref we had v Southport. Bring back that lady ref!

Think she moved on to better things
Re: Darlington V Brackley
Yep. In that system, i think Wheatley is a better shout, and i would like to see what Kneeshaw can do. Tbh you could switch in Thommo for Saunders.AndyPark wrote:You wanna drop Thommo and Elliott? Just a different, more attacking take. Not saying you have to agree, but i think this represents a good swing at a good team, who have a long, midweek journey, and will have one eye on the weekend. I'd like us to have a go.
Re: Darlington V Brackley
can't see why we'd change formation, when we are starting to see a bit more success with it.
I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with Burn playing, but I'm also not comfortable with Ainge and Hughes in a back 3. I'd want one or the other as the centre of 3.
I don't think you'll see Vaulks play for us again

Nicholson might be slightly more advanced?
Surprised to see Palmer dropped, but Wheatley is our best midfielder for me. We always look better with him in the side.

Don’t think Ainge has won a single header yet.

For 10/15 minuets in the first half we played some good stuff, apart from that it was pretty awful, biggest cheer was when Ainge was subbed, sorry he is worth his place in the starting 11.

Re: Darlington V Brackley
Can we have an apology for everyone who wanted Ainge to play as a forward, he really is garbage.
We basically played with 9 men because Henshall is just as bad.

Re: Darlington V Brackley
They were better all over the field, we never looked like scoring, that's 3 games and a single penalty.Henshall non existent as usual, no creativity in midfield, Maddison giving no confidence to his defenders,O'Hanlon giving his winger acres of space, Ainge far too isolated, Kokolo not used yet again, out muscled in midfield and there centre backs winning everything in the air.Saunders and Kneeshaw should have come on at HT, I could count only a single save there keeper had to make.Sorry Tommy but not good enough by a mile, stop playing your favourites and pick your strongest team for god's sake.
