The reason for our minuscule squad on a ‘competitive budget’
The reason for our minuscule squad on a ‘competitive budget’
Now, given we suddenly seem to have the money for two players after Liam Hughes has departed, are we beginning to see the reality of why our squad was so small?
Presumably unless we have had a mystery injunction of funds, Hughes salary (and presumably travel costs) is now covering the cost of two players.
Makes you wonder what Ainge is being paid as well. Looking an awful lot like TW spunked his entire budget on the ‘bigger name’ signings.
It never made any sense earlier in the year, when we had benches full of kids because we didn’t have enough senior players. It’s starting to look a little clearer now...

Re: The reason for our minuscule squad on a ‘competitive bud
https://darlingtonfc.co.uk/news/netcafe ... -directors...now we are looking to freshen up the squad by using the loan market. This in itself brings difficulties as when clubs loan players they expect them to play. We therefore have to guarantee slots but the model we are now successfully looking at is trying to sign loan players for free providing they play but if they sit on the bench they could cost us a small fee....

The decision was to go with quality rather than quantity, it was a risk and sadly Wright didn't manage to make the "quality" work. Not sure how it didn't make sense earlier in the year, the plan to have quality over quantity was announced by the board last summer.
Which two players can we now afford since removing Hughes, have we signed two new players, I thought it was only one and then hopefully some loans. I might have missed it though.
Re: The reason for our minuscule squad on a ‘competitive bud
Ah the reports last night were one loan and one new signing? Plus Holness, that’d be two.
Re: The reason for our minuscule squad on a ‘competitive bud
Holness will be permanent, the other 2 loans. Kokolo has gone back, and I assume Palmer is injured.

plus we've sent O'Hanlon out on loan (assuming that most if not all wages are covered)

And then of course Muggleton has gone too. I think the original post is a tad dramatic. We absolutely need to bring extra strength - no two ways about it.

It's been a struggle all season for the management, just a when thing starts to look up injuries decimate the squad, then the loanee players get injured that is really bad luck and we have had more than are fair share this season, let's look to these last game's and move up into a comfortable position within the league. Support the club by attending the matches at Blackwell meadow starting with Saturdays game against Chester, which I believe is winnable. Onwards and upwards with Darlington fc.
