Match vs Chester POSTPONED

Post by DARLODAH » Sat Mar 16, 2019 10:20 am

Today's home game against Chester has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

After heavy overnight rain and following an inspection by a suitably qualified referee, today's game has been postponed.

No date has been set for the re-arranged fixture.

Possibly a good chance to get the new lads integrated in the squad with this delay.

Am not in Darlington so haven't witnessed the weather, but is this a case of rain so torrential the new(Ish) drainage couldn't cope, or is the new drainage not good enough?

There was a lot of rain came down last night. The drainage at BM is good but even that has limits to what it can cope with.

We couldn't take the risk given the forecast. fC Utd called their home game v York off at 2.15. They will have had to have paid all those expenses out to,York.

Damned if it's called off or if it isn't. Imagine turning up at 2.30 and it's off. All the travelling exiles, chester, their support, caterers who would be affected. The ref inspecting it called it as he saw it. You'd be cheesed off even if you'd walked there! Watched the news tonight and can't believe the flooding.

The forecast was so grim that many would have stayed away anyway. I think the right decision was made.

It was a good decision to call the game off early, as it was far too big a risk to wait to see if the rain stopped and the pitch recovered before kick-off. Also the crowd would have been down on what was expected, as fans from both clubs would have decided not to risk travelling.
