He doesn't start the job until today. It's only 10.13 on a bank holiday....give him a chance!
When a new manager is announced, the coaching staff is usually announced alongside.

Wouldn’t be beyond reasonable to suggest that this could have been announced last week.

The really good thing is that AA starts with a clean sheet coaching wise. So he can try and bring people down from Blyth or he can go and get some new coaching staff, whichever he thinks is best for the job. Too often managers are either bonded by loyalty or they feel like they have to inherit some of the coaching staff left by the previous manager.

We have to ensure we do the things in the right manner and by the book as we have done so far. There’s a reason for everything.

First thing is to get Alan white to continue with the academy young lads trust him and for continuity within the camp I think until AA has chance to assess the situation.

They also played him next to Scott Harrison, who by all accounts performed worse.

Anyway, all this talk about signings, I wonder when we’re going to get an idea about AA’s coaching staff, I wonder if it’ll be who he had at Blyth? 1 week on and no talk of this yet, although I wonder if it’s sensitive with Blyth kicking up a fuss regarding the departure of AA.
Harrison has done well enough for Spendy, and Laing played the majority of the last 19 for Blyth and they got in the playoffs so theres no reason why he can't do ok for us too.
Pools were in turmoil when Laing was there and yet he still made around 40 appearances despite the fans thinking he was shite.
If we only made signings on the say so of fans from other clubs then we would struggle to sign anyone.

Boyes could be a realistic option if Maguire ends up at Spendy. But as i've said in other threats, i'm still hopeful we might get Wilson Kneeshaw back. AA would know him from Blyth, wouldn't he, so i suppose it depends on what relationship they had there.

I'm actually excited to see what we come up with. I'd expect we will get a handful of players from Blyth, maybe one or two released by Boro, and then maybe some loans to supplement it all.

I think Spennymoor would want a big fee for Boyes - probably something we couldn’t afford just now

If Maguire doesn’t happen for us then Knowles from Harrogate Town could be a great option

Any of the Spennymoor released players/ out of contract worth a look at? Names include Kris Thackray, Rob Atkinson, Ryan Hall, Scott Harrison

Ryan Hall would be one that would naturally cause an interest, however with Thompson & Rivers we would have two right-footed wingers already in the squad.

Atkinson is an experienced centre-half with a significant amount of FL experience, but is he better than Ainge/Galbraith/Laing? And we probably couldn’t afford 4 centre-halfs even with off-loading Burn.

Chris Elliott has been let go. Spennymoor making way for a Goalkeeper.

You reckon? I'm not so sure. I'm not sure he could command that much of a fee if he's essentially surplus to requirements. He may also request a move.

The difference is that Spendy are minted, so although Boyes "may" be surplus to requirements they don't have the same urgency to get him off their wage as we might do in the same situation.

Why the hell have they taken up the option on Tuton. They hardly used him and then farmed him out on loan because he didnt feature in the plans.

They probably see him as sellable asset and one they aren’t in a rush to get rid of soon. He’s Yorkshire based which would open up a whole host of clubs that could be interested in him.

Maybe it's still all about the "style of play" that he said was the reason why he binned off Chester in favour of Spendy. Defo had nothing to do with the rumoured £800 a week wages :D

Signings

And they were by all accounts terrible in those 40 games with him struggling in a key position. No one says he had a good time there so your reasoning is flawed.

All I’m saying is let’s look at it properly, rather than going down “Trust the manager, they always get it right” when they don’t. Not to say don’t sign Laing, more let’s not declare him a great signing before he’s kicked a ball.

Too many people seem to think playing at a higher level = a player will be good at this one. Yet we know fine well football doesn’t work like that.

This is something I’ve been wondering about if we do sign Rivers. I’ll be interested to see how we do fit both of them into the team.

Would one of them have to switch to the left and be on the “wrong” side in a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2? Or does one of them play up front with a more natural striker alongside?

Could play 4-5-1 with Rivers on the right, a new left winger on the left and Thompson as an attacking midfielder like Syers was

Armstrong’s favoured formation is a 4-2-3-1, he played this system for the majority of his time at Blyth.

I would suspect that he will probably play Thompson on the left, as he is more two-footed than Rivers. I can imagine Nicholson playing the number 10 role behind whoever AA signs as our centre-forward.

He could however play Thompson behind the centre-forward and Nicholson on the left, as Nicholson is predominately left-footed.

We probably need a couple of centre-midfielders, I am unsure if we are retaining Elliott. AA keeps alluding to the fact we have 9 contracted players, yet many are only sure on 8 and the most likely 9th is Elliott, IMO.

I think you will see Thompson on the left similar to how AA used Robbie Dale at Blyth

What was all that about Louis Laing signing? If Liddle is the first perhaps that was newspaper hype?
