Sloping pitches

Looking thru a website that encompasses non-league football at pretty much all levels, came across the case of Chard FC (step 6 Northern Lge 2 equivalent), who have been relegated to step 7. A club statement said this was

"after the Football Association ruled their sloping pitch does not meet the criteria to play at Step 6 of the national pyramid."

Chard Town's pitch slopes 12 feet end to end

From Ground grading Regs:

'The maximum slope allowable shall not exceed an even gradient of vertical to horizontal 1: 41 in any
direction. NB When a new pitch is being developed or significant improvements made to a pitch, the
gradient of 1:41 would not be acceptable and the pitch must be constructed with reference to the FA
Performance Quality Standard.'

The Performance Quality Standard is <1.25% in the direction of play and <2.5% across the pitch, with a lot of other conditions.

Chard is a fair bit steeper than 1:41.

Made me wonder what the figures are for Spenny's pitch and at what level it would fall foul of ground grading regs.

Spennymoor keep saying each year that they're going to sort out the pitch issues, but nothing ever seems to change.

Spennymoor getting to you, is it sinking in that spennymoor will now have a better ground pitch and pride of county Durham, you will have nothing to dig at spennymoor soon :D

Who cares about what slope gradient Spenny’s pitch is, or what they are doing.

Let them get on with what they’re doing and we’ll concentrate on what we are doing. They are of little interest to us and we should be of little interest to them.

Hate to say it but some of our fans take the bait insanely easily, like taking candy off a baby winding some of our fans up.

Read what I wrote again Polarbear it might help you.

If unsure then read my posts, Spennymoor have little to no impact on me at all. Actually think you have a very good club and a just about the best chairman/owner ever.

Don't take my comments that you can out spend us for Maguire as a dig, it's just a fact with the caveat of even without extra money you could see why him and others would be tempted to join Spenny.

I actually think you will be promoted next year, Brad is amazingly determined. Also in regards to the pitch when Brad wants to spend the money on sorting it then he will, so don't see any point in talking about it.

Huish Park is their current ground. Can't recall a slope there.

The old ground "The Huish" was the one with a slope

Wycombes old ground had a side to side slope, one touchline was about 6' higher than the other.

I didn't know about it having a slope, so googled it. Wikipedia says it was even worse at 11'
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loakes_Park

Are there any grounds with slopes in Football League left? I know that Maidenhead in Conference have a slope lengthwise

We've seen some belters on our way through the leagues. I remember Clitheroe in particular had a beauty, so much that the top of the perimeter fence around the pitch was stepped to keep up with it.

First away game of the Conference season 89/90; Smudger led the team out and gently tapped a warm-up ball which disappeared across the pitch down the slope to the far side where the Darlo fans were

I remember Dorchester Town had a horrible slope.. From behind the goal the opposite goal looked above the crossbar.. By far the worst slope I've seen... Wycombes Loaks Park was pretty nasty too from side to side not length way

What about tow law in the northern league, nice little ground but one hell of a sloping pitch. Surely they are banned now in the football league now along with grassy banks

They had a sloping pitch where Chris Waddle was first spotted... perhaps you've not heard if him either, Spen?

Ben lots of times there. Indeed I saw his last home game for Tow La.

Can't recall much of a slope to pitch, certainly compared to say Crook Town, Willington or Esh Winning

Street outside though is on a massive slope

Well there's lots of comments on the net about it and Jeff Winter mentions it in his book. Perhaps you were wearing your rose tinted glasses?
