He wants to stay and will meet AA once he gets back from his holiday.

Would be happy, i think he can easily cut it at this level. I thought he showed enough, along with Holness last year.

Hope he makes a quick & complete recovery, but once fit he could step into the hole in the squad left by Nicholson's departure.

Doesn't know where the net is, what's the point.

I see him as a creative player, not a goal scorer. Hopefully lets see him over a season. I think he offers more in all around play than Nicholson, but he needs to add some goals to his game for sure. Hopefully in an attacking side, he would do that.

Assuming we will play the system AA set Blyth up in, I think there'd be a spot for him off the main striker. It remains to be seen who that main striker will be, but Rivers, Thompson, Holmes and Kneeshaw would all be great options for the two players off him, and give us creative options on the bench. Also, i suspect they're costing us less than Nicholson was. It's a long season, and imperative we have options if we want to push for the playoffs.

I think what’s going to be great this season is having a bench full of players who can actually have an impact on the game!

Last season we cried out for a decent bench!

Expecting a 4-2-3-1 formation with Thompson, Rivers, Holmes then potentially Kneeshaw and Hopson that can play in the 3. Sounds decent to me, but awaiting for the important striker

Not for me Very harsh I know but he will not come back the same player after his injury not many players do, also I didnt think he offered much last season...Yes a team struggling for form so maybe that was the problem but he didnt stand out..

Not sure about a bench with impact as we only have 12 players including Glover. Still early days I know but let's not get ahead of ourselves.....

Spot on! Especially as AA has stated there will have to be more departures. I hope he has got his Maths wrong as in the Echo article he states" I could do with another 4 or 5 but I've got to shift some out and that will be sorted in the next week or two" So say 5 added to the 12 we have, less those on the way out...…………….we might struggle to name anyone for the bench!

Got to agree, we don't have a big squad at the moment and we won't have a full bench of impact players, AA needs to bring in a few more players.

Torn Achilles’ tendon I think.

Don’t get this woe is me stuff about squad numbers. The season is weeks away yet so let’s just let the bloke have his holiday and then get jiggy when he gets back.Im sure he has plenty to go at before training starts.

Oof. Achilles is a bad one. We won't see him until 2020 if it's a full tear I wouldn't think. That said, we also might get him in for cheap, so it could be an arrangement that works for all parties.

Not worried about the squad at all. I think we'll see a solid core of 14-15 players and maybe the odd local loan. Maybe not as many as last year. Crucially, it'll be nice to have options on the bench if AA does a better job at spending the budget in a more even way.

I'm sure I heard someone from within the club say at the forum that the op went well and he hopes to be back in October. I could be wrong though.

We are going to need a bigger squad of 14-15 players and “the old local loan” in order to compete.

I remember back in September when we had a squad of about 16 and, due to injuries & suspensions, we had 5 kids on the bench which TW couldn’t use, they weren’t ready.

I guess this highlights the importance of AA being able to get rid of the ones he wants to lose, and replace adequately. There’s probably room in the budget now to bring in 3/4 more, but if he can move on a couple he can bring in another 3/4 and take our squad size to 17/18.

TW tried to go for quality over quantity, yet we got neither. In the end the squad was a mess by the back-end of the season. A lot of loans, short-term contracts and then big contracts.

How large a squad did Blyth have last season? Might be a decent indication of what to expect.

Quite possibly. But a huge part of the issue was TW spending his money on players like Ainge and Hughes, who were chronically unfit, and Burn, who was useless and unfit.

Ok 14-15 sounds small, but maybe 15-16 is about right, and a couple of loans. It'll depend on what the players cost, but we can't afford to be paying players who can't even make the bench. I'd assume we'll continue with a youth goalkeeper on the bench, so there's only four bench spaces up for grabs. An injury crisis you could then use the loan system.

Didn't want to muck up the serious "Sticky" thread about team players, so apologies for posting here.
Woke up this morning, after a kind of dream/nightmare. AA giving his team talk before the first game of the season, along the lines of: "Remember we are playing 5-3-3 and the most important thing is to make sure that you don't give the other team a chance to aim at the empty goal".
Jamieson and one or two others would be nice before bedtime!

Yes, I do. In my dream and, when I posted, I had completely forgotten he had moved south. Keeping up with all the transfers is a struggle for an oldie like me.
