how does a transfer window work in terms of 'restraint of trade'. Surely this is restrictive?
You can complete a transfer at any time. You can only register players in the window.
So no restraint of trade arises.

For example. Man U could sign Harry Kane today, pay his new wages etc. He would be a Man U employee, but they couldn't register him and hence play him till 1st january.

It's a bit of a fudge but it's how they get round restraint of trade

Strange as he had the offer to sign for Whickham anyhow, must have wanted the pay out is the only assumption I can come to.

If that is the reason then he really is a Grade A.

Good on him and hopefully he silence the doubters and all the managers on here...Because everyone knew his situation not wanting to play football

Sat on his coin and then went to Whickham after his pay off, despite having the opportunity to go two weeks ago.

Looking forward to him silencing the doubters at such a marvellous level of football.

Also, I must stress again, your hatred of your own fans is weird.

The most disappointing thing about jonny burn for me is that he's a darlington lad and showed not the slightest interest in picking himself up and pushing himself to get a starting berth in his home town team, he came with good intent but wasted almost 2 years fannying about instead of gritting his teeth work his balls off to get into the squad. My question would be to jonny do you really want to be a footballer????.such a shame could he recover from this only time will tell it's all up to jonny how far down or up the pendulum swings.

He didn't steal anything. He took what he was contractually obliged to. He must have met the criteria that we couldn't get rid for not fulfilling his contract. Fans are the owners. Would you be so up in arms if it was Brad Groves it had happened to? (Think it might have with a former golden boy) Just because he's from Darlington, why should he feel more for the club than 90,000 other people who live here?

You’ve answered your own question. We’re paying his wages, so it’s not unreasonable for the very least fans to want is for him to give his all for the club. As far as I’m aware, we’re not paying money to the 90,000 residents of Darlington, hence why he should feel more for the club.

And there were undoubtedly issues. You’re being wilfully ignorant if you think there wasn’t an issue with him.

I’m not expecting him to get the club crest tattooed on his chest or spend every game in the Tin Shed, or turn his house into a replica of Stephenson’s Rocket.

But given we’re paying his wages, I do expect him to give his best and want to turn out for the club, which evidently he didn’t.

No one on here knows what has gone on in the past with Burn, when I’ve met him in hospitality he’s always been chatty and friendly. All players have contracts and normally are advised by agents or PFA how to handle the situation If they are out of favour, if you have a contract it’s like any other industry so let’s not demonise the lad.

Defending him to the last then Harry. But there again, why should people knock him?.After all ,he’s been a model of professionalism while he’s been with us.

And quakersfan,I’d be friendly and chatty if I was raking in hundreds of pounds a week for doing fuck all.
I take it you two will be off up to Whickham now to support your golden boy.

The reason he didn't play is the two managers he has had at Darlo didn't fancy him.

He had a two year contract so had every right to stick around and be paid each week. He turned up for training when required by all accounts and done as requested, he just didn't convince either manager to play him.

He had opportunities to go on loan/leave and didn't fancy it, although he eventually was happy to accept a pay off and then move to one of those options. It was his right to push for a pay off and that's up to him, it's up to everyone else to make their own mind if they agree with those actions or not.

Maybe he feels like he wasn't given the opportunity to make it work, however it's a good thing it's come to an end and both club and player can move on.

Fair enough. I think when it's your living, and you're going to lose what I assume will be a fair wedge each week, most people would look after number one, fan or not.

Alun Armstrong in pre-season: “All the lads have been great, apart from one or two from last season.” See the Northern Echo.

Jonny Burn hasn’t featured this season despite being under contract, even in the midst of numerous injuries and absences in our squad.

Jonny Burn performed badly last season and subsequently didn’t feature under TW.

Well-connected people on this board have said he doesn’t want to play for us, and has been offered ways out but would rather have taken his wages here (as he’s entitled contractually). So there’s been no assumptions. In fact it’s fairly clear.

Instead, I suspect you’re just being difficult for the sake of it, which you have a habit of doing.

I’d suggest a comparatively well-paid footballer who was initially brought in as a first choice starter not playing regular footballer because two managers don’t think he’s up to it is an issue, particularly given our player shortage.

It isn’t difficult to put two and two together.

Well summarised Gramps, totally agree.AA seems a manager players want to play for, so if Burn is one of the players he refers to from last season then good riddance and hopefully has found the level which suits his "talents".

One thing about AA as a manager really does stand out. If a player has ability and the right attitude, is hard-working and always gives 100% to the cause, then he is given every chance and is part of the plans, even if not necessarily in the side every game. He's pretty much said this himself. I don't know how much clearer this has to be for people to grasp.
