Walsall Watch
Walsall Watch
I see they lost again last night 2-0 away at Oldham.
That's their 4th defeat on the bounce.
They had a guy called Sadler sent off.
He is probably in their defence and will he now miss the Darlo game?

Re: Walsall Watch
Also, Tamworth's striker who had his penalty saved on Saturday scored with one last night.
Re: Walsall Watch
The comments from fans on here make interesting reading. Will Darrell Clarke be manager when we go there?. I seem to remember many moons ago we played 3-4 clubs on the trot and after each game they sacked their managers. Funny feeling Walsall may have been 1 of them

I thought Harry played that one with a straight bat but their lousy form can't last and beware the change of manager effect - if they do sack Clark. This is a game for us to win though, there's only a league between us at present and the general feeling around Quakers is light years from this time last season, best of all we're remembering how to defend. Off to see Hartlepool at Notts. on Saturday - nice to see them picking up too (?).

ugh?
unusual to see these days. I know in the olden days, folk would alternate between watching different clubs in the same city (liverpool one saturday, everton the next)
personally I'd rather see the neck stretchers languishing in the bottom tier of football, but draw us (somehow) in every cup competition so we could hammer them. I'm sure the feeling is mutual.

I'm travelling down by car to Walsall, does anybody need a lift as I have two spaces left in my car? Leaving at around 9am, as need to pick up my son from Leeds on the way down. If your interested then pm me.
Re: Walsall Watch
Yeah. I can't quite grasp that. I sometimes watch Dulwich Hamlet down here to get my live football fix. I know plenty go to watch big sides occasionally. What I can't imagine is going to watch a perceived rival.Comfortably_numb wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2019 9:30 amugh?

This might merit a different thread - something to do with where is the love? - but in the old days - Boxing Day 1966, Feethams was stuffed with so many fans to see us play local rivals Middlesbrough that the barriers burst and a few of us ended up watching the game from the pitch. We were hammered 4-0 and there must have been 2 Boro fans to every Quaker. A lot of people were pissed but peaceable and there wasn't any trouble to speak of. Twenty years later one of Darlos glory nights was spoiled by dreadful violence between the same clubs in the cup and it was worse in the league two years later. I'm glad we're unlikely to face Boro again. These eagerly anticipated local derbies became unregulated brawls and the enmity lingers in some of the comments about Hartlepool. I think it's outdated and counterproductive; when we were paired with them in a regional cup match it turned out to be a money loser because of the cost of policing the game. At this level that's ridiculous. Let's have some spice in the game but we supporters can do better - are people really wanting another club, in the north, to fold? Wouldn't it be better for Pools to prosper then we can look forward to drawing them in a cup match or emulating them. Randy Newman says 'all men are brothers till the day they die'
That's as true for Hartlepoolies as it is for short people.

Re: Walsall Watch
What puzzles me is some of the bile and vitriol aimed at spennymoor town including one of our idiots attacking a young boy getting back on their supporters coach at Blackwell meadows last season. They might be a derby rival but we are always welcomed with open arms through at their place allowed a pre match drink in the Moors tavern trouble free.imagine trying to do likewise in the mill House at Hartlepool. Personally speaking I think the more derby rivals the better. If we're still in this division next season here's hoping we're joined by south Shields and Morpeth town has well.

I can happily confirm that I definitely don't want Hartlepool to prosper and actively wish financial ruin on them.Wiseacre wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2019 4:07 pmunusual to see these days. I know in the olden days, folk would alternate between watching different clubs in the same city.

Re: Walsall Watch
We're unlikely to be joined by Morpeth. They're 15th. I'd hoped Whitby or Scarborough might make a push this year, but that looks unlikely.
Personally, i can't fathom scrapping about football, and that includes when Hartlepool come to town. But i do concur that is a proper rivalry with an edge in the ground. The Spennymoor games aren't even close to the same thing. But more local games are good imo. I'd look forward to taking on Shields home and away next year, which looks likely. Although with our current form, who knows...

6th defeat on the bounce for them today.
Please don't sack the manager until after next week's game!

Re: Walsall Watch
Not seen it mentioned earlier - their manager is ex-Poolie Darren Clarke who brought his Salisbury side to the Arena in the FA Trophy Quarter Finals in our FA Trophy Winning season 2010/11. He was open about how he would use his Poolie contacts to get inside information for the match.

Spoke to Smudger at the game today, he's probably going to Walsall next week & on the way down he's stopping at Doncaster, as David Speedie wants to go to the game as well. Happy days. I must have heard people saying are you going to Walsall about half a dozen times today.
