Louis Laing
Louis Laing
Could he be converted to a stopgap striker. He is tall enough to win headers and has a fair amount of skill on the ball so could be a possible option for us.If Hedley and Liddle are available on Wednesday he will be surplus to requirements as a defender.Would give us a different type of threat if starting or from the bench and would be something Walsall would not be expecting. It may be a gamble but we are really short on options. Ainge proved a very effective makeshift attacker for a while at Harrogate so who knows what could happen.

Re: Louis Laing
Off the bench as he was at Walsall, he did cause them problems and its a decent option.Good shout that.Old Git wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 5:27 pmCould he be converted to a stopgap striker. Re: Louis Laing
Laing can cause the defence problems, but mainly in ours. Agreed he is good in the air, but not sure he is able to turn or hold the ball up if he played CF, like O'Neill did. Really need someone from midfield to run at their defence & get into the box to create chances. Would love to see Thommo take one & that record (but anyone in a hooped shirt would do!)
Re: Louis Laing
Point is that Thompson Rivers Campbell etc. are all capable of running at defenders and causing problems but we need another option as well. There will be times when a high ball upfield is the only one available and we could do with someone to compete for headers.Bit desperate I agree but nobody else available at present.jjljks wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 6:01 pmLaing can cause the defence problems, but mainly in ours. Re: Louis Laing
It’s an option, who would you take off to slot him in up front?
Re: Louis Laing
Possibility try Laing through the middle with Rivers and Thompson playing wider. Campbell maybe not at his best recently, not quite a central striker not quite a winger. Not a bad player just not quite sure exactly what he is.Darlopartisan wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 6:53 pmIt’s an option, who would you take off to slot him in up front?
Re: Louis Laing
So you think a bloke who has probably never played up front in his life would be a better option than a highly mobile specialist forward with seven goals .Old Git wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 7:12 pmPossibility try Laing through the middle with Rivers and Thompson playing wider. Bizarre.
Re: Louis Laing
Never said that I am saying we need to think outside the box and look at other options.Clearly Tyrone is a massive miss and looking at who we have available in the squad who might be able to offer a different approach. Our other forwards are all a bit similar in style and any football fan knows you have to have a plan B,C, D etc.Emdubya wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 8:30 pmSo you think a bloke who has probably never played up front in his life would be a better option than a highly mobile specialist forward with seven goals .Old Git wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 7:12 pmPossibility try Laing through the middle with Rivers and Thompson playing wider. Re: Louis Laing
Laing might well find himself starting alongside Storey.
Galbraith did not look good when he came off yesterday and although AA said it was a kick and not a twist, he could be struggling.

Re: Louis Laing
Think he'll be OK. If it wasn't late in the day he'd have come back on and run it off.

You are more confident than me!
Re: Louis Laing
As I put this out there it looks pretty clear the answer is no based on his brief appearance on Wednesday night.Old Git wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 5:27 pmCould he be converted to a stopgap striker. Hahahah I was in completely the same boat as you pre-Wednesday and now can totally see why he wasn’t tried there sooner.Old Git wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2019 9:02 amAs I put this out there it looks pretty clear the answer is no based on his brief appearance on Wednesday night.Old Git wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 5:27 pmCould he be converted to a stopgap striker. Re: Louis Laing
Totally agree with you Ghosty, but he’s still a better option than Laing up front .Ghost_Of_1883 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2019 10:50 amSpecialist forward? He needs to start proving it then.

Re: Louis Laing
Are we still in for this Gary Martin move in January? If so he/Donawa could see us through to the end of the season. Remember this is a rebuilding year.
I can see us going for McGuire in the summer esp if York go up to the NL

Do you not think McGuire is good enough to play in the NL?grimsbyquaker wrote:Are we still in for this Gary Martin move in January? If so he/Donawa could see us through to the end of the season. Remember this is a rebuilding year.

Re: Louis Laing
Not sure but he can’t have imagined that he’d go to York to then play so little
