Post 2012 XI

Post by H1987 » Wed Nov 20, 2019 11:08 am

As I’m having trouble concentrating today, my mind was wandering, and thinking of our best XI post 2012.

So far I’ve gone for 4-3-3:

Pears

Trotman Brown Galbraith Ferguson

Falkingham Turnbull Hatfield

Styche Nelson Thompson

I’m decidedly unsure about Brown and Galbraith as a centre half pairing... but we’ve had some dubious players there in recent years. You’d fancy this team to march the league though.

Felt bad leaving Beck out, but Nelson is a cut above any other striker we’ve had in recent years imo. You could make an argument for O’Neil to feature here.

Think it is easier to do the most dubious XI or perhaps give a bench of 5 subs to settle some of the contentious omissions, like White / Wheatley / Cartman / Jameson / Beck?

I'd have White in at the back, Galbraith left back and Ferguson in midfield. He was far more effective played further forward, probably in place of Falkingham. Turnbull and Hatfield are shoe-ins.

Front three would be Thompson, Styche and Purewal for me I think. For some reason I'm struggling to think of who our forwards have been over the years!

Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

This is probably a bit out of left field, but Chris Emms would be pushing for a place in my midfield - I bloody loved that guy! :D

Purewal? Yikes.

I never liked him, even in the northern league. Totally recognise his contribution, but bambi on ice. Never looked in control of what he was doing.

Even if you don't have Amar in your XI, surely you've got to have his brother in as part of a back three? That guy's plenty good enough as third-choice centre back.

I was a big fan. Quality player who was an instrumental part of the first few years. Held the ball up well, scored goals, won aerial battles.

Yeah, i know a lot were. He did hold up the ball well... but he always sort of looked awkward doing it, as though it was more by accident than design, and that he'd trip over his own feet at any moment.

Not denying he was a great servant for the club, or knocking him as a person, but i never particularly warmed to him as a player. I certainly wouldn't choose him ahead of Beck. I'd have Cartman ahead of him as well, for sure.
