Laing and Liddle and possibly Connell missing on Tuesday due to work commitments. We really are thin.

Are you implying that Laing was the reason we lost today? :?

So there's no guarantee that Tez will be available on Tuesday.

No. I'm implying you have a look at our record with and without Laing in the team.

That we are defensively a better team without Laing.

Today was all about a collective failure by the whole team to do the right things throughout the second half. And that was all over the pitch.

Have to agree.

Laing is a fantastic passer of the ball and no he doesn't hide, but he has a calamity in him - and the facts are there that we concede more goals with him in defence than without.

Storey and Galbraith together have been pretty solid.

Looking at the goals yesterday, the first one was Campbells fault, the second one the whole team switched off and we were caught out, and the third one was due to a dreadful kick by Connell. Laing wasn't personally responsible for any of the three goals conceded.
I think people are too quick to jump on the "poolie fans say he's s*** so he must be" bandwagon.
Same as when we signed Borthwick, didn't matter he was top scorer for 3 seasons running, some fans never liked him due to the reputation he had at Pools.

Tough game tonight, long way to go on a Tuesday night for a part time team. The stats don't scream of a great match incoming either, pitting the team with the 4th worst home record in the league against the team with the 3 worst away record. Their home record reads:

W D L F A
3 2 3 10 10

And our away record:

W D L F A
1 1 5 7 17

Potentially no Connell depending on work commitments, and definitely no Laing or Liddle based on their work commitments. Rivers and Holness have both been ill as well so not 100% if they are able to play the full 90 minutes.

Assuming Connell can't make the game and Holness and Rivers aren't 100% i would go for:

------------------------------ Elliott ----------------------------------
Hedley ---------- Storey ----------- Galbraith ---------- Watson
--------------- Hatfield --- Wheatley --- Bascombe -------------
-- Donawa --------------- Thompson --------------- Campbell --

Subs: Holness, Rivers, Lambert, Holiday, Armstrong.

Need to get back to the source of our good run which was to be hard to score against, while we're not prolific in front of goal by any standards, in our games to this point we've only been stopped from scoring 4 times in 17 games, add the cup games into that and it turns into 5 times in 23 games. Problem is we're often having to score 2 or more to win games, which has become more of a struggle since O'Neill was recalled. Plenty of pace in that front thee to cause problems if we get in behind teams, need to be encouraging the front three to give us plenty of shots too.

Fingers crossed for a good result to get us back on track. Would be more than happy with a gritty 1-0 win, backs to the wall performance tonight.

Would love to think we could keep a clean sheet as they are all tough games with this over-stretched squad, but could be a chance for the youngsters to get some game time in a first team shirt. The suggested team above is about the strongest we can start with, given current circumstances. Would hope AA's plans for a CF in the New Year comes off, just can't come quick enough for me.

Lots of changes. Very surprised to see Donawa drop to the bench. Happy to see Holness in the side.

Holliday back on the bench, but no Bell? Which seems surprising - maybe his loan has been extended? But there's an open space on the bench. No Connell, Laing and Liddle as expected.
