On the game itself, it is absolute epitome of Darlington typicality to be pummelled at Brackley, implode against Telford, be woeful against Leamington and then outplay title challengers Chester.

But we looked good, a vast improvement on the last few weeks. At the risk of speaking too soon, our home form looks to have drastically improved this season compared to previous years. I think it was only about 12-18 months ago we actually looked to prefer playing away (I remember the Nuneaton farce of this time last year as an example).

So a good start to a tough few weeks of games but we’ll need to maintain that improvement and step up our away form with trips to York, Blyth and Spennymoor coming up in the next month or so.

Well, you had to be there to believe that game. Gutsy performance all round despite missing key players & thanks to 2 chances taken well. Chester were a good footballing team & we matched them in nearly every department.
Thought we were going to lose the points as the lights failed repeatedly, then realised it must have been a cunning plan to give our lads a prolonged rest at half time, worthy of Baldrick. Just pleased for the 3 pts & proves nothing is impossible if we keep playing good football.

I think we finally got the cup run out of our system. Bernard Morley was right yesterday when he said that a cup run can subconsciously effect a team for a while afterwards. Once you've had a big day out and publicity it becomes hard to motivate yourself for trips like Leamington away. Look at Altrincham yesterday - Portsmouth one week, then lose at rock bottom BPA the week after.

Positives...thought we outplayed Chester when we had the ball. Donawa, Holness and Wheatley particularly impressive.

I thought Liddle was immense at the back. He was up against their danger man and he won every tackle - he was also one our best outlets.

We still miss a CB who can clear the ball. We needed two / three attempts to clear the ball out of our box we were able to get something on it but didn't get the trajectory to get it out of danger. It certainly wasn't comfortable in that second half.

All in all a good performance and illustrated that we absolutely have the quality in our team to trouble most teams in this division.

What a great result that is after 2 really disappointing ones last week, great answer by the lads. You could tell they were absolutely having none of it when Chester piled on the pressure for that spell in the middle of the second half. Beating 3rd place and keeping a clean sheet without Galbraith and Hatfield as well as our other long term injured lads was a great shift. We rode our luck at times, couple of daft moments that could have cost us, but probably deserved the win on the football we played and the constant graft.

That was a very entertaining vlog & a very fair & honest summary of the game. You obviously jinxed it saying how the form of Chester was so good & Darlo's was so bad & that we also played midweek & you had a full weeks rest. Good luck at Hednesford next week in the Trophy, you've certainly got an easier game on paper than us.

Thank you for the nice words. We seem to have a habit of underperforming when we play teams in poorer form than us, and yesterday shown that. I’m sure that you will climb back up the table again if you manage to go on another strong run like you did in October. Good luck against Solihull Moors next week too. If Wrexham can beat them, then surely you can 😉.

Ok fair enough. An abandonment would have been a good result for us :D but you fully deserved the win.

Nice vlog Rio. The sort of thing I'd have liked to do when I was younger but we didn't have the internet in the 80s. Instead I wrote match reports in an exercise book and showed them to my mates.
I would think the vlog at the Deva stadium will be much more pleasant for you. Our record at Chester is truly terrifying. Who could forget our 6-0 defeat in 1987? Also, hot off knocking Middlesbrough out of the FA Cup in 1985, we got tonked 5-2.
In 95-96 we only lost one game away all season. Guess where we lost? That's right - 4-1 at Chester.
And last season when we somehow only lost 3-1, our manager after the game Tommy Wright admitted that some players had not been turning up to training. So Chester away really does bring out the worst in us.

Thank you I appreciate it! I also write match reports too and post them on our forum, DevaChat. We do seem to have a decent record against you as prior to Saturday we had a 100% winning record since reformation. Hopefully the match at the Deva next month will be an entertaining one 👍.

Who remembers 1960/1 season, mid December in the fog at Feethams. DFC won 5-1 but only a few people actually witnessed the goals. Five thousand plus in the ground so moving from end to end was not possible.

You must be as old/older than me!!!

I think the guidance then was that the game went ahead if the ref could see both goals from the centre spot - he probably was the only one who saw the whole game.

I was stood about the half way line in the paddock front bit of the old west stand. People were asking the linesman what was happening.

I remember when we played I think Doncaster at Feethams & you could barely see the halfway line. We were shouting through the fog to find out what was happening at the other end, haha.

No I only moved up here in 1974, it was probably in the late 70's.
