The race for playoff spots continues

Going for the league championship, no change tonight.

The playoff contenders, Chester could be in fifth place in the Brackley and Boston win their game in hand.

05. Boston......... 26.. 8 3 1.. 6 2 .6. 40 27. 13.. 47

The playoff pretenders, who of the seven will break away, last week it was Darlington, but a Saturday loss hurt them. Two wins for Altrincham in four days has them now in sixth place. Gateshead’s big win lifts them to eighth with games in hand on Darlington.

The inconsistents, teams that look too strong to be relegated, but too inconsistent to move towards the playoff chasing group. Nice wins for Telford and Alfreton. While Blyth keep losing Kidderminster and Gloucester are safe.

Based on last night and the current direction of travel, I would guess that playing games out to bring the relative positions of teams in line, would see Darlo fall behind Gateshead (who have two away games in hand and might be expected to draw both based on their away results), and Spennymoor (who would have one home game to play against an away Darlo game which, based on previous results, would shift the points total in their favour). Although this would see Darlo out of the top 7 they may well be within a couple of points of the playoff places and with 15 games to go would have them very much in contention.

Last year we would be in the pack below the play-off contenders - this year we are in the pack for play-off contenders - in the space of a few months that's a promotion within the league! It certainly shows the progress under AA.

I reckon Gateshead and Spennymoor will most likely head upwards in the coming weeks meaning a downward shift for others, possibly us. Our goal difference is poor compared to our competitors too.

Looking at the fixtures to come, we have played a lot of the top teams away already and some of them twice meaning if we can keep the tempo and consistency against the lower teams, our run in is favourable.

To play...
1. Kings Lynn (h)
4. Brackley (h)
5. Boston (a)
6. Alty (h)
8. Gateshead (a)
10. Guisley (h)
11. Southport (a)
12. Farsley (h)
13. Telford (a)
15. Leamington (h)
16. Hereford (a)
17. Kettering (a)
18. Curzon (h)
19. Kiddie (a)
22. Bradford PA (a)

Not the worst run in in the world - there's only really Boston away where I think we're pretty much nailed on to lose. Should be able to pick up enough points to keep us in the hunt, which is far more than I expected this season

It's looking bleak for Gloucester, if Blyth can pick up some form, they can get out of the bottom 2.

15 games to go 45 points to play for. I think to stand any chance of being in the playoffs, we'd have to be looking at picking up a minimum of 25 points, most seasons since the extended playoff places were implemented 67-69pts just about get you in and 25 takes us to the bottom figure. Of course it could be higher or lower than this to guarantee a spot, also we'll have to start improving the goal difference to buy us a virtual point.
"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"

Unless we get some thumping wins, I can't see our goal difference improving enough to make up the virtual point.

Blyth were stuffed the second they lost Roberts. There's not enough talent in that squad to stay in the division, and Lee Clark is useless.

I think we have a favorable run-in, but let's see what happens! I'm pretty confident right now.
