Boston Away

Lets have a Boston thread. Well I'd say our toughest game for a while, apparently York were well beaten after finding some form against Chester. However, it's often said that Darlo rise to occasions like this and the performance at Kidderminster was encouraging. The brilliant away support should help as it did in last years match when we got - in the second half - one of the better shows of Tommys tortured tenure. I don't know if Ainge will play for them but you know he'll score if he does. Is it time to bring Thompson in from the cold ? I accept that he's inconsistent but he generally turns it on in a big game. 8-)

Tough game. One of the best home teams in the division. They'll be confident after beating York. But York were going well when we turned up there and won so we certainly have it in us.

I'd be tempted to go back to the 4-3-3 formation that brought us success when we had O'Neill. Give us a bit more bite in CM and some more bodies in there for when we lose the ball.

----------------------- Elliott ------------------
Hedley --- Storey --- Laing - Watson-
-- Holness -- Wheatley -- Hatfield --
Donawa --------- Reid ------- Campbell

Ainge played on Saturday V York and got "stuck in" according to the match report - however I'm wondering if this game will be on, because of all this storm stuff going on.

Interesting to hear the Boston manager saying: "I like Darlington. I think they've got some great players. I like Alun Armstrong's teams, they really go for it. They have got some exciting players and they are having a good season themselves." He's clearly looking forward to us not parking the bus :D

Still undecided if I wanna make the trip down, only thing putting me off is getting back after 1am on a Tuesday night. Leamington was bad enough just before Christmas.

Hopefully we can go down there though, play our game and show what we are all about (we've done it plenty of times away from home Walsall, Solihull, York). No reason why we cannot get a result.

Haway Darlo.

Andy regards bringing thommo in from the cold he missed an absolute sitter again on Saturday having started the game. I think he's best used has an impact sub these days. But I do think getting this record breaking 101st goal for the club must be praying on his mind.

I live less than 20 miles from Boston. Rain was not terrible on Sunday, but today it's just dumped another cm in half an hour. Touch and go for tomorrow, as we've had a deluge of rain in Lincolnshire since October. Some of the teams in the Boston and District League (Step 8) have had 2 games since mid-October.

Another issue is the winds. 50 mph gusts tomorrow afternoon. They'll have died down to 20mph by 6pm, but I'm thinking of our team travelling.

Hope if the game is in any doubt that the plug will be pulled before we travel I'd hate to suffer a late postponement.

A really tough game, I'd be delighted with a draw, but expect a defeat.

Good news not to be playing them as they are in full flight. Would have been another "six pointer" for us just when we were struggling to get back to winning ways. Also a bit more time for the lads returning from injury to get back to match fitness.

Not at all disappointed about this for the same reasons stated by jjljks.

It's not as if we have a huge fixture backlog either.

I went up to the spennymoor game with ours biting the dust got to admit it was very entertaining Altrincham are going to be a real danger when we entertain them at Blackwell meadows later this season. Spennymoor scored an absolute worldy from Rob ramshaw but Altrincham shot themselves in the foot missing a penalty at 2 1. Also hope that Altrincham have the same goalkeeper as tonight when they play us he looked very vulnerable to shots from distance.

And, "loose" for "lose" (we will loose this game)
And Darlo-Pete's speciality of using "there" for "their" (I wonder what there ground is like?)

Me, I never do anything wrong.

I think these are both referred to as a 'Matterface' in commentary parlance, as in:

"Ooh, he's tried a lob there and it looks like it could of come off of the defender's arm."

"You've gone full Matterface there, [insert commentator's name]!

Also, it was a chip, not a lob..."

Having been at the game myself as a neutral on the night I'm going to cut polar bear some slack here. Their was no segregation on the night so I'm assuming that the spennymoor officials have just included the Altrincham fans that traveled free in the attendance figures. I was stood with the alty fans behind the goal in the first half and I'm convinced about fifty were in attendance.got to admit it was a cracking game but how spennymoor survived Altrinchams late onslaught searching for an equaliser heaven knows.
