Wondering what the pitch is like given recent wet weather. Storm Dennis coming on Saturday so guessing the game could be under threat.

Pete probably been somewhere exotic in Upper Weardale and will have sage words to impart regarding the weekend’s weather.

Can't see any chance of the game going ahead, the weather force for Saturday is truly shocking. Rain from 7am, turning heavy by 12pm & 60mph winds at kick-off. If we hadn't had all the rain over the last week or so, then there would be a chance.

surely the wind of Monday and Tuesday will have dried any standing water?

As usual the superb drainage (and if needed the pump) at BM will do it’s job and we’ll have a game. The pitch might actually play a bit better

what about covering the pitch?

The timing of Dennis the Menace could make things really tricky tomorrow. Looks like it will be OK at the time Leamington will need to set off but then get worse and worse as the day progresses with strong winds and heavy rain. That's the end of this Met Office weather alert :D

Hopefully they'll make an early decision & take the forecast into account.

Not possible too many clubs complained to the FA a few years ago because inspections were being based on forecasts and there were photos going viral of pitches at KO time which were perfectly playable.

So officials were advised in no uncertain terms not to do it and a few were booted for doing it because of the comeback.

The trick is to effectively sell it as based on current pitch it's unplayable and make sure everyone there follows that party line if anything comes back later.

Weather forecasting has improved significantly over recent years, there can’t be a single person who doesn’t expect storm Dennis to come in on Saturday and deposit large amounts of rain. If you look at the met office forecast rather than the bbc then the heavy rain starts at 9 am. Time for common sense to prevail - is it really sensible to expect people to do a 300 mile round trip when it is obvious the pitch won’t be playable at 3 o’clock even if it is at 9 am.

Sensible?

This is the football authorities we are talking about. Since when has sensible got anything to do with decision making?

How about since last week when they called City v West Ham off early enough to stop WHU fans traveling?

Sheffield and Manchester are different places Spen.

EDIT. Spen appears to have altered his writings, my post above now makes no sense.

Common sense indeed. The news is full of how bad tomorrow will be, so why ask a team to travel so far just to turn them round when they get here

Looks like the League are allowing clubs to call off games even if pitches are OK at the moment, bearing in mind the impending Armageddon.

A good move, but disappointing none the less. I wonder if any clubs will fail at the last minute?

Luckily Spennymoor away tomorrow so will avoid an embarrassing late postponement again.

Good call. Again, gives our injury list a bit more time to reduce & lads like Liddle to gain match fitness. Just hope we can finish the season on a strong run of form & sneak into the play-offs.

lo, if you haven't watched that "inside no 9" episode about the referees, I suggest you do so. It's quite good.

I thought players only gained match fitness by playing in games Image
