The Team 20/21 season
So with a fantastic effort with Boost the budget AA has some cash to spend. where do we see the money going, at the moment the squad looks like this;
GK. ?
Defenders, Hedley Storey Laing Liddle Watson.
Midfield, Hatfield Wheatley,
Wide, Donawa Rivers.
Forward, Campbell,
Utility, Holmes Atkinson Reid. ( i have used the word utility because i am not sure what their best position is)
Obviously we need a goal keeper, loaned or signed ? i think most agree we need another striker, and central defender.
I haven't put Galbraith and Holness in as they are not committed yet.

Re: The Team 20/21 season
Would put Holmes as a wide forward. My guess is Atkinson will play more in midfield than defence, and Hedley would in the first instance be used as a RB, particularly if Armstrong doesn’t bring in a specialist for that position.
There’s an account called Non League Guy which has linked us with Sol Brynn (Middlesbrough goalkeeper) and Adam Wrightson. No idea how credible those rumours are, but who doesn’t enjoy a bit of speculation? They do seem Armstrong-type signings but like I say, I don’t know if it’s true or not.
AA said he wanted a squad of around 18 players, supplemented by some youth players. If Galbraith and Holness depart, that leaves us with 13. I could see a GK, CB, wide forward, CF and possibly a specialist full back.

Re: The Team 20/21 season
Sol Brynn is 19 and U23 keeper at Boro. A long term loan of a keeper, like Aynsley Pears, seems like a sensible move for a club like ours. It benefits both clubs and would save some money on the playing budget.
Adam Wrightson is a current Blyth player.
BTW, what sort of forward is Maguire?

Re: The Team 20/21 season
Adam Wrightson has always impressed me, very quick and tricky with an eye for goal.A bit on the small side and similar to what we have in Rivers and Holmes so a bit surprised if we are in for him but a very exciting player and the type the Darlo fans would take to.If Wrightson does come in would we still go for Maguire especially as AA wants a more physical presence up front.

Re: The Team 20/21 season
Maguire is a hustle & bustle type of centre-forward, with a very good eye for goal (as his record proves). Don’t get me wrong, he isn’t a 6ft+ target man, but he’s certainly equally as good running off defenders or with his back to goal.Vodka_Vic wrote: ↑Mon Jun 01, 2020 1:17 pmSol Brynn is 19 and U23 keeper at Boro. Re: The Team 20/21 season
Wrightson isn’t good enough for where we want to be imo. Can’t see that one happening as I’m sure he was out of contract last season and he didn’t end up here which would have been a safer bet

I agree , don’t think Wrightson is good enough for us imo

Re: The Team 20/21 season
AA said in his Netcafe that he was after bringing in 2 CFs I believe. So add a GK(Loan/ see if rumours about Jameson are true) Centre Half(Kerr/Tait) The 2 forwards (Maguire and target man style type) then probably add Jack lambert too, that’s a naughty little squad we have there
Re: The Team 20/21 season
I think Lambert is pretty much nailed on so then we need GK, CB, CF , I’d take any of the below
GK - Jameson , Whitley , Hemmings
CB - Kerr , Tait , Devitt
CF - Maguire , Langstaff , O’Neill
GK - Jameson , Whitley , Hemmings
CB - Kerr , Tait , Devitt
CF - Maguire , Langstaff , O’Neill
Re: The Team 20/21 season
Possibly I would add Gould and Boyes to that list. Ryan Whitley is contracted until May 2021.
Also disappointed to learn that Adam Wrightson is not Jeff's son.

Re: The Team 20/21 season
I just can’t see both keepers staying at York - if Jameson stays they might send Whitley out on loan again ?

Re: The Team 20/21 season
Always caused us problems when he played against us, similar type of player to Thommo but if we are serious about Maguire then cannot see this happening.divas wrote:Wrightson isn’t good enough for where we want to be imo. I will certainly back AA’s judgement on this one.

Re: The Team 20/21 season
Wrightson is a tricky little player but wouldn’t be for me. A bit like Rivers though from what I have seen but not as good. He can certainly beat a full back but rarely seems to produce an end product. I think in Rivers Holmes and Donawa we have some good options for wide attackers not to mention using Campbell out wide.QUAKERMAN2 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 01, 2020 3:19 pmAlways caused us problems when he played against us, similar type of player to Thommo but if we are serious about Maguire then cannot see this happening.divas wrote:Wrightson isn’t good enough for where we want to be imo. Re: The Team 20/21 season
I don't think they will either. Someone on another thread said that York are looking to cut costs and even though both keepers are under contract Whitley is seen as a better prospect so they may be open to offers for Jameson.

Re: The Team 20/21 season
Wrightson is nothing like Thompson in my opinion. One is all about pace with not a massive amount of end product (Wrightson) and the other who's game was a lot about strength with some pace and also real quality on the ball (Thompson).QUAKERMAN2 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 01, 2020 3:19 pmAlways caused us problems when he played against us, similar type of player to Thommo but if we are serious about Maguire then cannot see this happening.divas wrote:Wrightson isn’t good enough for where we want to be imo. Wrightson is a squad player not a starter and wouldn't improve us, I very much doubt we will look to sign him.

Totally irrelevant anyway, if we are serious about Maguire then AA will look to bring in a more physical player.super_les_mcjannet wrote:Wrightson is nothing like Thompson in my opinion. If York are clearing players out I wouldn’t mind us taking Kempster

Kieran Green.
Re: The Team 20/21 season
There's four players York won't let go and they are Green, Ferguson, McLoughlin and Kempster.
Re: The Team 20/21 season
Griffiths would be quality at RB
You’d think if he left York he’d go back to Spenny
