Boro engaged the esteemed George Carmen QC in 1997 and the FA still threw the book at them!HarrytheQuaker wrote:It wouldn't matter who they used they would never of won , and to suggest its because of them solicitors they lost is utter toshOld Git wrote:South Shields made the mistake of using local solicitors Hadaway and Shite. Re: Increasingly unlikely playoffs
The FA is a private club and make up their own rules. Unless this conflicts with the law of the land then there is nothing a solicitor can do to overturn any decision made by the FA.
Its like when a player is on an FA charge, they word any charge in a way that means they can get you on something. Anybody who has attended an FA hearing will know exactly what I mean.

Re: Increasingly unlikely playoffs
Yep it's a club all members affiliate to and in doing so acknowledge the rules and regs they document.
In reality the FA wouldn't haven't made the decision about steps 3 and below unless their rules permitted them to do so. It was a pointless exercise by South Shields.
Re: Increasingly unlikely playoffs
According to York Press, now looking more likely that NLN & NLS playoffs will go ahead
https://www.yorkpress.co.uk/sport/18536 ... -revealed/
Still some uncertainty over TV screening with BT Sport & also costs associated with testing programme on players for Covid19 in weeks prior to games which will add to costs. Some clubs still worried about finances & may not take part, in which case York want top 2 clubs to go up.

Re: Increasingly unlikely playoffs
York are only interested in whatever solution gives them the best option of going up - understandable really. I am sure all clubs are like thatjjljks wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 4:33 amAccording to York Press, now looking more likely that NLN & NLS playoffs will go ahead

Re: Increasingly unlikely playoffs
York can want whatever they want. The decision was laid out if they don't get enough teams prepared to compete then only 1 goes up.
I think its been confirmed York, Boston, Altrincham and Gateshead are defos going to compete from NLN anyway...
Weymouth are fundraising for it but I cant honestly say I know much more about NLS to know whether they will get 4 teams together.

Re: Increasingly unlikely playoffs
Brackley are also taking part. The finances are a "challenge" but no fundraising required. Allan Leighton has a big sofa . They are also building a new stand and new clubhouse which has required fundraising. I really hope they go up... with apologies to our southern mob!
Re: Increasingly unlikely playoffs
Not much discussion about the NLS clubs intentions. If they don’t produce four interested in playing, the whole deal is of including the north division!

Re: Increasingly unlikely playoffs
Still plenty of uncertainty according to the Price of Football podcast yesterday. They reckon the playoffs will be null and void if the NL cannot give the EFL certainties over the start of the 20/21 season. Basically said the EFL would refuse to accept the play off winner into their membership.

Re: Increasingly unlikely playoffs
That is more to do with the fact the FL have said they will not relegate any member if they have not had it confirmed that they have a league to play in next season, thus there would be no league spot to play for.Quaker85 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 7:18 amStill plenty of uncertainty according to the Price of Football podcast yesterday. I don't see why that should stop NLN and S from having a promotion spot to the NL.

Re: Increasingly unlikely playoffs
I would have thought any concerns of the NL restarting would be equally shared by EFL2.EDJOHNS wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 7:59 amThat is more to do with the fact the FL have said they will not relegate any member if they have not had it confirmed that they have a league to play in next season, thus there would be no league spot to play for.Quaker85 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 7:18 amStill plenty of uncertainty according to the Price of Football podcast yesterday. Re: Increasingly unlikely playoffs
It doesn’t. I was just widening the scope of the discussion seen as none of it is relevant to DFC anyway.EDJOHNS wrote:That is more to do with the fact the FL have said they will not relegate any member if they have not had it confirmed that they have a league to play in next season, thus there would be no league spot to play for.Quaker85 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 7:18 amStill plenty of uncertainty according to the Price of Football podcast yesterday. Re: Increasingly unlikely playoffs
So does that mean the playoffs start with
Altrincham v Chester
Brackley v Gateshead?
Once they all find £50k each it will cost to stage the game, first.

Re: Increasingly unlikely playoffs
What are peoples predictions for the playoffs? I'm going to go for:
Gateshead to beat Brackley
Altrincham to best Chester
York to beat Altrincham (toughest to call, I think Alty are a really good side and whoever wins this wins the lot)
Gateshead to beat Boston
York to beat Gateshead
York promoted. Would be a shame to lose them as a local game and a good crowd especially as in other circumstances we may have gotten South Shields from the league below to make up the local game and good crowd numbers.

Re: Increasingly unlikely playoffs
From memory I think Alty have beaten York away twice already this season so I bet York will be very wary of completing an unwanted treble.JE93 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 5:34 pmWhat are peoples predictions for the playoffs? I'm going to go for:

York are a good side but they are nothing special, I think they could come unstuck here. We saw the last home game at B.C. - that night Hereford did the classic hit and run!

Calling it now - the games will be a farce.
Unfit players in error-strewn games... probably isn't going to provide representative results. The team promoted will be the one that boredom ate the least during the quarantine.

They might be fit but they can't be match ready surely?
It will be like the kickoff of a new season with the possibility of odd happenings and strange scores, and I'm not sure what relevance the league table will have.

Re: Increasingly unlikely playoffs
I think it will be very unpredictable as to who goes up. The lockdown will definitely even things up & I think any team in the play-offs could go up.
Re: Increasingly unlikely playoffs
Yes, very hard to pick a winner in fact may even favour those teams involved in the first knockout matches. Apparently there will be a TV Pay as You Go arrangement, but I can't see too many uninvolved people wanting to view the matches, so clubs could hardly be breaking even once the costs of Covid19 testing and getting the games on are totted up. So will be much easier to pick 5 financial losers which may even carry over into next season.Darlo_Pete wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 10:10 pmI think it will be very unpredictable as to who goes up.
