Another new signing.

Certainly has the experience as well.

Safe to say he more than fills the “no-nonsense centre-back” vacancy. Exactly what we were missing last season.

Looking really positive, a very experienced CB, just what we've been hoping for. With a big, young CF added to an already decent squad it makes me very hopeful for the new season, whenever that is. Just a quality keeper required now!

The Hunt signing looks good to me. We've not really had that experienced organiser at the back since White left.

He was playing regularly for Crewe last season so suggests he's still got the fitness and mobility to get around the pitch.

A calm, experiened defender is exactly what we've been missing in defence, so very happy with this (on paper!)

Congrats to Darofan97 who mentioned that Nicky Hunt was a possible target on another thread. Great signing & just what the team needs, well done Alun.

Great signing I wonder if the Freddie Barber connection helped at all.
As it has been said, his experience is just what we need, hopefully he fits into the jigsaw.
The Squad is starting to shape up nicely, giving us good options in most departments.
Quality keeper next please.

Good old Wikipedia has him down as "A Right back who plays for Darlington!"

Dave Beasant & Neville Southall both played until they were nearly pension age.

Andy Lonergan, experienced goalkeeper and a sort of full circle for his career.

If Nicky Hunt is a success, may I be the first person to suggest a good song to chant on his behalf.

Haha now there is someone quite happily accepting a final pay day...

I wonder if when the PL created the rule around eight home grown players they envisaged that clubs would bring in ageing English goalkeepers from the lower divisions as their third choice keepers...

See Andy Lonergan (Liverpool), Lee Grant (Man United), Scott Carson (Man City), Rob Green (Chelsea)

I think you're being quite naive to say the are simply 'happily accepting a final pay day'. All of the aforementioned have important roles to play in the training regimes of their respective clubs and are highly regarded within them.

Andy Lonergan played for Darlo in 2002, I think both he and Teevu Moilanen came on loan from Preston soon after each other

Thought it was David Lucas who came around the same time as Moilanen. 2002 seems a bit late I don't recall the east stand being built when Moilanen was with us.

I really believe that Nicky Hunt will surprise a lot of fans, he's a grafter who loves his football ,
Those saying he's only coming for a final payday are way off the mark, he will be a big signing for us, just wait and see.alun wouldn't have brought him into the club if he thought any differently. In alun we trust.

I saw the name and thought “That can’t be the Nicky Hunt who played for Bolton and was one of the skinniest footballers I’ve ever seen” but I’ve just seen that he is the very same.

Blimey!

All 3 came from Preston over the course of a couple of years, all 3 while we were still at Feethams.

Hunt isn't here for a pay day, he could have got more no doubt closer to home.

It seems his link to Hatfield and Liddle was the main factor in him signing for us from the comments.

Whilst his age is always a risk, there are plenty of positives including his form for Crewe, seems a really good seasoned pro, the one thing we needed in the back four alongside Laing/Storey and I don't believe we are paying crazy money.

One of those signings that AA would be daft to turn down, he covers everything we want barring a little bit older than we would like.

Interesting interview with Ray on official website. Nicky comes over as very positive and enthusiastic about the game in general and his career in particular. He seems like a real football fan and I think he can be a good role model to our younger players. Hopes to play until he is forty so lets hope he can do that with us and achieve some success. He must be a candidate to take over the captaincy next season. If he can stay fit can be a very influential player for us.
