I’ve seen this on a few news websites. Very strange as they’ve made 8 signings so far, one as recent as yesterday!

£340k of the debt was owed to two individuals a lender and their ex-manager (John Askey) and then a further £190k to HMRC. I thought Sol Campbell also say he didn't ever get paid his salary from them - that doesn't appear to be true based on report.

You wonder what the situation was with Askey based on the figure mentioned (£170k) he can't have been paid for years.

Cant believe a ex manager is owed Nearly as much as the tax man. Was he on premier league wages or summat. Enjoyed my visit there when they won the national league. Is 500k really alot for a club to go under these days even in the national league

The amount is irrelevant.

If you have debts and are unable to pay them, or unable to demonstrate you have a plan for paying them, then this is a likely outcome.

This is another case of an incompetent owner not looking after the club and not dealing with issues that arose. The warning signs were all there.

Can't say it is a surprise as the winding up petition was first lodged back in January 2019. Alkadhi managed to get it adjourned 12 times already and said he was in funds to tune of £1.1M as well as in negotiation to sell to Robert Benwell who had been sniffing around Bury. Obviously 13th time unlucky for the Silkmen and a sad end for their fans.
PS Southend have had their case adjourned to 28th October......

Olly Baylis is reporting that the NL resolution states that the top division should have 24 clubs which could mean Ebsfleet could be reprieved. This would leave the south division with only 20 clubs whereas the north has 22.

What a mess!

Southend also in the mire on the same article, also owing HMRC tens of thousands. How many more are close to this situation. 4th time postponement for southend debt £493,000. Been given time again to clear debt but I think it is a step to far and the will follow macclesfield.sad for the fans off these clubs.

But surely we’ve had the League AGM, therefore the allocations are already sorted. Would have thought it’s more likely only three will be relegated from the National League.

Would be extraordinary at this stage, given the fixtures are out. And also unfair on Ebbsfleet, as their planning has been geared towards playing in the NLS. Would be ridiculous to drop all the extra travelling costs etc on them three weeks out from the season.

So what will be the implication for the NL? Will Macclesfield be allowed to start there league campaign or will they just be scrubbed from the fixtures?

Scrubbed - they have been wound up - that is final I thought. I appreciate there are differences between limited companies and the football club but I think it's game over.

Pete, the judge has is issued a winding-up order. Once the judge has issued this, the director's powers cease. The court will appoint an official receiver to take over. My understanding is the official receiver will secure and liquidate any remaining company assets and after deducting their costs, distribute the funds amongst the creditors. The company will then be removed from the companies house register. This is far more terminal than administration. Here is Macc's latest Wiki: "Macclesfield Town Football Club were a professional association football club in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England, which was due to compete in the National League, the 5th tier of English football, in the 2020–21 season but was wound up in the High Court on 16 September 2020"

Don't take this as gospel, but I have a feeling askey loaned the club money to help keep them ticking over, and that it's not all missing wages.

Askey was macclesfield through and through and Not the first time a member of a clubs staff has loaned a club money. That wanker dave dickson borrowed joe cala money at gateshead as a way to get the reserve team managers job and was then given the managers job despite the club haveing no players to manage at the time

Is this a possible way back;

Wed Sep 16, 2020 2:45 pm
Statement from Silkmen Supporters Trust -

The SST are devastated by the decision of the court to wind up Macclesfield Town Football Club.

The responsibility for this lies at the feet of one person – Amar Alkadhi.

We are currently looking into what actions we can take to save the club and as such will be seeking a meeting with the receiver as soon as possible.

In the meantime the SST will attempt to put together a rescue bid.

We ask all our fans to unite and get behind the SST. We therefore ask any fan with specialist knowledge to contact the SST, as soon as possible.

I doubt it. Pretty sure the only way back from a compulsory winding up is rescission being granted by a judge within 7 days of the original order. For that you have to prove there were conditions which existed at the point the order was made which the court was not aware of and would have lead to a different result.

Can apply for a stay which would pause the action of the official receiver / any liquidator who was appointed. But that simply is a pause, wouldn't reverse proceedings.

Another sad day for English lower league football to lose a club established in 1874. You feel for the fans and staff behind the scenes, hopefully they can look to make the best of it, secure something around Moss Rose and start again from the ground up with Fan ownership and involvement in the board room.

Can only hope the new budget caps in the league will start to curb spending (but I doubt it).

The other big thing that needs to happen is around top graded academies. There need to be limits on number of players in these academies. Let better players end up lower down the divisons coming though local clubs youth systems to the first team. So when Prem and Championship clubs want to snap these players up they have to pay market rates, ensure the money in the higher league filters down in an authentic way. Far too easy to hoover up all the talent at age 10 and keep them till they're 20 just to make sure they're not the next big thing before letting them go.

Memories of a virtuoso performance by Craig Russell and a magical Ian Harty cameo at the Moss Rose back in the day-ish.

The VID, Brexit, BoJo, Donald Trump, clubs like Macclesfield going under...

What a time to be alive.

The academy strategy is a deliberate FA strategy though so this won't happen - it conflicts with the ambitions of the national side.

It may be better to apply a ceiling on the number of contracted players above the age of say 21 or 23. At the moment they limit the number of registrations but that doesn't prevent player retention.

That would force clubs to let players go at that age rather than having contracted players permanently on loan elsewhere.

The issue is unless it is a global approach it makes PL clubs less competitive in Europe as well especially with the B / C team models in other European countries who couldn't do something similar.

Really sad and terrible timing as I assume they're now too late to compete at any level this season as a phoenix club.

I really wish the FA would try and be understanding regarding phoenix clubs. It's bad enough clubs going pop, but it is a reality. This is Bury all over again, who had to sit out a year too.

league constitutions and fixtures are done so too late for this season, even if a phoenix club could be formed immediately .

Sadly, I fear they won't be only club to suffer this fate, especially if there is another lockdown or lengthy restrictions on fans going to games

Maybe not as bad as bury. Macclesfield have been wound up leavieng the fans to crack on with a phoenix club, bury still exist and there arcehole owner is just putting the boot on. How the hell bury have not been wound up is puzzling, they have not played football for over a year and wont have any income comeing in
