If Groves has aspirations for his vanity project to go full time and replicate Harrogate Town into the football league, and at the same time lose a fortune, then good luck to him.Unlike us they will never become sustainable with that fan base and I just fail to understand what he is trying to achieve.

MARTIN GRAY - COME ON DOWN.
I was thinking that as well - I would not be surprised.
I would.
Surely now is the time Uncle Brad will want to bring in a full time manager to take the club to the next level. Ainsley has done well for them but has probably reached the limits of where he can take them. I would expect the job will carry a substantial financial reward for an experienced manager who will probably have experience higher up the pyramid.
An earlier poster mentioned Salford and I would think Graham Alexander would be an ideal sort of candidate if available.

Gray’s last job was full time.
Mr Singh said this " I'm not expecting to get back any of the money I've already put in, I'm prepared to write it off for the future of the club. I'm not hanging in to make any kind of financial gain in the short or long term - if someone was prepared to come in and take the club off my hands, I'd be more than willing to discuss it"

Been at it a long time to describe it as a vanity project. What he is trying to achieve is league football for a club he undoubtedly loves .A low level Jack Walker if you like.Wouldn't you do the same if you were him, but a Darlo fan? Let's see how long people are happy with sustainable if we plateau in this league.

Pretty obvious what he’s trying to achieve. Football League status with lots of money behind the club.

They’re as sustainable as Groves makes them. So long as he keeps putting the money in, they’re sustainable. In the same way we’re sustainable so long as the fans keep putting the money in.

All power to them, as far as I’m concerned. Let them crack on with it.

Totally agree. Never understood the sniping at Groves. If only we'd got him instead of Reynolds or Singh.

How about Tim Flowers, who was after the Gloucester job and is still hunting around for a role. He likes a team whose game is centred around a big man up front, all he'd need is a long-throw specialist and bingo! Or Marcus Bignot, who won a National North title with Solihull. But Groves, who is a Sunderland fan, might go for someone with a connection there. And MG does like a big budget...

We have plateaued in this league. Isn't this our 5th season? Yet very few people complain about that or the lack of a money man. The ghosts of previous money men still haunt us.

To be honest this is probably our level now, aiming for the play offs each season hoping to sneak a promotion one year.

I'd be amazed if Gray was even a consideration. He'll see how Tommy Miller does in the next couple of games while he touts around for potential managers. Wouldn't be surprised to see a shock contender for it.

And as someone mentioned 'multi million point investment'...wonder if there's still potential to deny it

I deny it, and as for attendances some keep rambling on about, Darlington only had an average of 288 more than Spennymoor
1471 and 1183
Hartlepool could say the same about Darlington, who have a vastly larger margin

Groves clearly underwent a change in approach to the club. A few years ago he said his aim was to massively reduce the club's total reliance on his financial support. He said others needed to come forward and his plan was that the club could go forward sustainably even without him. It would pay its way without one man's backing:

https://spennymoortownfc.co.uk/2017/09/ ... -momentum/

Nothing happened and he then started ploughing ever larger amounts of money into players and the ground, now in the multi millions. As said, as long as he continues to prop it up with huge sums, there is no problem. If that ever stops, or is reduced, there is no way the club will be sustainable. It just doesn't have the income streams from attendances and other sources to be viable without Groves' money. However, all the indications are that he will continue to try to drive them forward, whatever the cost. I thnk eventually he could well have to look at building a new ground as well as going completely full time.

From what I have heard the Brewery Field could never pass the requirements needed for league football due to its location and lack of parking.

Think there is more space around Evenwood, though if they did move perhaps a name change would not be permitted & fans united in opposition

Yes, the thing with Spennymoor crowds is that they let in a lot of people for next to nothing.

I think it’s a laudable goal, making live football affordable, but it must be an almighty burden on their investor. If he’s happy to do it, good for him. Some benevolent chairmen stick with it. It’s not an option for us.

1,183 is impressive I suppose, but maybe not so much when you've had a decade of constant winning, and hundreds of free tickets per match to bolster the numbers.

And why are you denying the multi million pound investment, are you calling Uncle Brad a liar? Charming.

They gave away 280 season tickets through the academy last season and these were included in the attendance figures whether they attended or not. I suppose you've got to do what you can to try to justify this stupid "Pride of" bull....

What would Spennys average be if we didn't bolster it with our away support? And also York probably take a few there also.

Without the freebies and the York/Darlo away support, probably about 750.

Not so sure, forest greens ground had bugger all parking, same for harrogate and fleetwoods ground is small. Mind does he actually have football league ambitions or just a steady full time national league team, which is sure do-able

This has been discussed before and I still have my doubts.

If say not one person turned up on the day to watch the team, any team - would the official attendance be 280? Would the authorities go hunting for 280 people if an emergency occurred? I think not.

I'm not hanging in to make any kind of financial gain in the short or long term - if someone was prepared to come in and take the club off my hands, I'd be more than willing to discuss it"

Hmmm, thanks - I see what you mean.

To me it's wrong though, and I'm surprised it's legal. Also if the figures are tweaked, as in not right, what's the point?

I can see why you might want to overstate things if your avowed aim is to be the "biggest and best" in County Durham. I don't want to labour the point but if you have a few spare seconds just take a look at the start of these highlights and tell me if you think the official near-900 attendance looks even remotely right...
