Merry Christmas Quakers

Well, when I last posted I was hoping things weren't far off being back to normality, how wrong I was.

Still, Bury have made a strong start in the tenth tier and sit top of the league.

Thus far we have had a 6-2 win a 5-1 win, a 3-2 home win on the opening day with two goals in injury time, and a 1-1 draw where we equalized in added time with 9 men. So yes, its been a roller coaster with lots of goals.

Fingers crossed nothing stops me getting to my first game on boxing day.

I see Darlington are 21st but with games in hand, so hopefully you can get that sorted out in the new year, lockdown pending of course.

The obvious pleasures of parenthood aside, one of my highlights of 2020 was getting to Darlington back in January, despite the disappointing scoreline. It really was a great and memorable day which will live long in the memory.

Anyway, I am rambling, so Merry Christmas to you all, and hopefully things can return to normal in 2021.

All the best to you, Shakerfan. Being positive is the only way to be and the only way is up. One day, the idiots who run football will realise, it is the people's game, for the people, by the people and not there to line owner's pockets.

All the best ShakerFan. Recently caught the documentary about Bury AFC on the iplayer. Good stuff - shows what football is really all about. (It's at https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p ... tball-back if anyone here hasn't seen it).

I got to my first game on Boxing day where we came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2. I loved it and found the ground at Raccy Boro more than adequate. It felt like a Bury game and my passion for the team was just the same as it always was. The recent developments because of Covid make it look like the season might be kyboshed however which will be disapointing.

Also, in other news over the weekend an out of town property developer who is a director of Ilkeston Town has made claims on twitter that he has bought the charge on Gigg Lane and wants to buy the club.

I was immediately suspicious anyway owing to the fact he already has ties with another club. However a quick google shows his businesses are not particularly successful and are recording losses. He appears to have little in the way of wealth despite claims to the contrary. No LinkedIn profile, his company website is a disgrace with no information. Google search about him reveals some very dubious goings on in other business dealings. He has little online presence aside from a recently activated twitter account that he's been using to engage with Bury fans. When asked questions he doesn't like he has become abusive, calling one person (a Bury based blade who has done a lot of work for mental health in Bury and the wider community), a prick, whilst blocking many others. He has said if successful that he will not allow any fan involvement, and when pressed on the matter of getting AFC on board he mocked EVERYTHING that the club has achieved and stands for.

The worst bit is, there is an online presence of fans who are anti Bury AFC and they will go along with what this as will I suspect some others. Personally I think/hope whatever this crook is planning will fall through, but thought I would post and get a taste on what you all think.

It is leaving me sickened and dumbfounded, after everything that has happened to us there are fans jumping on this crap and thanking him for saving the club. It defies belief.

This is a serious question, and am interested to see people's views: what is it about football in particular that attracts these types of people? It seems to be especially susceptible to them. It can't be the prospect of making money as I don't think there's much dosh to be made from lower league football, is there?

The words football club and property developer should strike fear in the heart of every fan it's obvious the guy from Ilkeston is just trying to get his grubby hands on gigg lane let's hope the local council stops him in his tracks just as ours did with a certain Mr Houghton.

You will always get fans jumping onboard with what looks like the easy option of someone willing to take control and put money in. We have had our moments and no doubt will again where some do not like the fan funded model, and in fairness it has limitations but has less risk than one person who you don't know running the club.

The new guy who has turned up in conversations for Bury seems strange, not down as a director for Ilkeston but claims to have put a lot of money in - yep alarm bells would be going massively.

Sure there were some weird goings on at Ilkeston in recent times.

On the subject of why. I guess there is a lot of emotion in football and connection to a club I suspect it may be used as an 'in' for broader interests.

Remember speaking to an insolvency practitioner at Begbies Traynor a few years ago and he said that whenever a club went into admin there were the same characters who would show an interest. They would rarely have a any real means behind them but a lot to say for themselves.

Ah found what I was looking for. Ilkeston were wound up 3 years ago...http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40157987

Well, Stewart Day the main man behind our destruction paid himself a massive wage as chairman, so he could live out his own fantasy and destroy the club in the process. Last I heard he's living in a very expensive house in Formby. He never put a penny of actual money into the club. So, from that perspective, considering where we were at the time I can understand what motivated Day. Same with Dale who has readily stripped and stolen from the club since arrival just over two years ago.
This latest crook though, I don't know. I'm 10000% certain that his motives are not about football in Bury though. The club is at best a carcass, and he's got no genuine assets or wealth, and his business experience is very dubious. Yet he claims he can get a club without a league place, with no FA membership, with big debts, a ground without a safety certificate, no players and no staff to be debt free and on a stable footing. All in the midst of a national pandemic. Yeah right.

I should add the ground has at least 500k worth of damage that needs repair as well.

On top of that Wigan a league club with it's ground, training facilities, players and league place and just 20 miles down the road will be going for much cheaper.

fairly obvious I'd say - it's the desperate hope that someone else will come along and sink oodles of money into the club they love.....thus saving the fans from having to do it themselves. That's not a dig at any fans by the way - just human nature. We all know the script with our closest rivals....we've tried to reason with their fans....but until the supposed white knights have all disappeared....the only option left is the fans financing a club.

As we have shown, it's actually not all that bad fans having to fund their club - it can actually happen - and you get the huge bonus of having a real say in what happens to your club.

Is that Hartlepool that you talk of, what has actually gone on there, isn't their chairman the ex Darlo chairman?

You would not believe the attitude of some of our supporters towards dodgey looking 'white knights.' its like they seem to think some out of town bloke is going to come riding into town and our fortunes will be restored overnight. We will be straight in at Conference North, Gigg will be restored, crowds will be back and the rest will be history in the making.
Some of the comments I have read from a small group of fans who are anti AFC is absolutely mind boggling, and some what disgusting. Sneering at the none league pyramid, the grounds, the opposition quality and the fanbases.
When I was in school I was always mocked for being a Bury fan. It was normally the same jibes week in and week out from armchair United and City fans who could not comprehend why I would support Bury. Jibes about the division we were in, jibes about our small fanbase, jibes everytime we lost. I'd be surprised if it wasn't the same for many other Bury fans and the likes of yourselves and other lower league fans across the country

So yes, to read comments from so called Bury fans calling the lower echelons of the none league a 'pub league' and saying that we will be playing on school fields is frankly beyond hypocrisy.
Strangely, these are the same fans who vocally supported Stewart Day when he turned up in 2013 and readily shouted down fans who wanted to call Day out.

Anyway, sorry about the rant. I am having to stay off our MB at the minute as this development has brought a few idiots out calling for this crook to be given a chance.

Hope you don't mind me using this site as therapy. :D

you may think that I'm referring to the planet of the apes....I couldn't possibly comment :)

obviously sounds like there are bury 'fans' not wanting to face up to reality. sad how it can divide a fan base. we've had our fair share of questionable chairmen - before george reynolds turned up.

Keep the faith, Shakerfan, and enjoy the ride. When your team starts to move up the pyramid, while the delusional ones still have nowhere to go on a Saturday afternoon they will start to drift back (while denying they ever backed this crook). :D
