Given the league position we are in I am not too unhappy with this decision - I cannot see the season continuing or being finished.
Alun sounds as though he wanted it stopped as well - on the pitch we haven't been great recently so he needs to go back to the drawing board.

Even if this becomes an end to the league season presumably the trophy carries on so we have to keep training and paying the players/management?

During which players will still need to be paid and cannot be furloughed. The can is being kicked down the road.

Why can’t the players be furloughed?

Our next game is presumably the cup match against Wealdstone. It would be a shame but we may just have to forfeit the tie if our season is over.

The whole situation is a mess and it seems to get worse with every decision made by anyone

Surely that'll mean the end of the season, unless the season is extended by probably a month.

I presume they think that in two weeks time the government might come back with a diferent funding proposal, but we'll have already lost another 4 games by then, meaning we'd have to play two games a week for 16 weeks. If you extend the season to the end of June you'd be left with a month before starting again in August. Pausing the season just compounds the problem.

If the season goes until the end of June, simply start the following season late September/early October and run that until end of May.

Then start the season after that early/mid September, finish early May.

Then back to normal the following season.

It ain't rocket science, although I appreciate that this simple staggered return may be way, way, way beyond the grasp of the genius level minds at the FA and NL.

On my Interweb travels I’m picking up a suggestion from certain clubs that a way round this might be what is being termed “a 'Guernsey FC' option -whereby clubs who can't or don't wish to play could withdraw from the league yet keep their place in the division for next season, and leave those who do want to continue to do so” I think this is mainly aimed at the top National league and may well be wishful thinking.

It has to be said that the NL don't go a bundle on detail when they make a big decision. Nothing about why or what the ultimate aim is or what happens now to work out a way through this crisis. It's almost like they're angry as buggery so just shoved out a couple of terse sentences to the annoying twats that have forced their hand. Maybe it's just a slow start to the new open and transparent approach.

This works except the FA want their restructure.

Step 1 is operating 1 club down, Step 2 is operating with 5 clubs less. Step 3 is missing a whole division.

They want the restructure to happen to enable some normality to resume next season.

Can you furlough for 2 weeks then restart? We won't be able to train or anything if the season does restart. Also, if we carry on with the trophy then we can't.

Got to admit I'm happier that it was paused before this week's games rather than afterwards.

That would have been very scary if the season was not declared null and void.

Yes, we can furlough, bring players back & then furlough again.

Ultimately, it’s up to the club to make an informed decision on whether they furlough now, or in a week, or just continue as normal ahead of the FA Trophy tie.

On the plus side, our lads are now spared a long return journey through icy weather down to Kettering (along with the DFR/QTV crew) and there is more time for the injured players to return.
Not sure whether there is enough room for the negatives, just seems like National League have booted the can down the road and given 2 weeks time looking the long grass. Unless the NL have found an extra couple of months, I don't see how we can possibly fulfill all our fixtures this season.

In normal businesses you can furlough for one day or make someone part time / part furlough. Not problem at all if the club wants to furlough players as you say.

You do realise this is what we asked for as a club?

We signed a letter which specifically asked for suspension until funding has been resolved.

the only problem with that is the 2022 World Cup is in December so the entire football calendar has to be accomodated around that.

Exactly.

And luckily for us, it appears that every one of our playing & management staff were on our payroll before the furlough cut-off date of 30 October. Some other clubs, unfortunately, won't be in that position.

Was it "luck" or a good business decision by the Board? I think the latter.

You're probably right.
