By Craig Stoddart »

Darlington have tonight signed two players on loan from a fellow North-East club.

David Dowson and Jamie Chandler have arrived on loan from Sunderland and the pair, both 20, go straight into the squad for Saturday's first game of the season at Aldershot Town.

Dowson is a striker who played on loan at Chesterfield last season, while Chandler is yet to make his league debut but has represened England at various age levels.

great news, i was worried that we'd be very light on numbers for sat and monday, at least we've a striker to take the burden off windass

after what todd said at the forum i expect both to start on the bench but im sure they'll both get half an hour

Further to article, on weds BBC boro Dave Parnaby said that boro were contemplating loaning a number of fringe players with Darlo in mind. Have a listen on the ipod. Does this mean we are in receipt of the golden share. Thought you cannot sign players under admin.

from what i can gather chandler is a tough tackling central midfielder so doubt todd would employ him on the right, hopefully he'll bring in porritt for that role

from what i can turn up on chandler he looks a fantastic young prospect and has played in recent england youth teams with lads who are really starting to make a mark - sturridge, delph, sears, sinclair, tomkins, gibbs, gosling

I can't quite see that happening, but it would be nice if it did.

Any idea how long they are in on loan for? I suppose all will become clear in the morning.

Great news though. Just need another option wide right and maybe a cover for the full backs and all of a sudden the squad will be looking half decent.

Could still do with a winger and defender, hopefully that is where boro will come in handy!

Pleased to see Dowson come in up front and Chandler will be needed in midfield at some point. So it helps the depth a little bit.

Dowson will do a good job for you's. He's highly rated in our youth team and by Bally. Bagged a hat-trick the other night against Durham aswell I think? Don't know too much about Chandler though.

Both come highly rated by Sunderland, but let's see how they do in competitive games before getting too excited.
